Sleep walking

Well for starters Dirks had been hurt for several games.

Also, a manager has to manage personalities as well as lineup cards. So if he makes Delmon a full time DH because a bunch of people want Dirks in LF, then you have a pissed off guy in the clubhouse, and that likely leads to more problems. Delmon does not want to DH, remember how bad it got when Sheff bitched all the time about having to DH?

When did Sheff bitch about DHing?

Also, Eldred has to go.

The other day someone said, give the guy a shot...

He's had his shots in MLB, the guy was freakish in AAA this year, but he's back to his MLB career form, low Avg. OBP. and a very high strikeout rate. A full season of Eldred and people would forget about what Adam Dunn did in 2011.

I can't believe I'm actually hoping we get Delmon back soon.

I'd give him one more series to stop swinging at everything, he's worse than BB in this regard. The strange part is that he kept saying in interviews he had learned not to do that. weird.

You can give him 1 more series, or 2 more, or even 3.

In the end you're just throwing those AB's away.

The guys career numbers in both the minors and MLB show what he did in Toledo was as flukey as possible, and totally unsustainable.

Whatever magic was working in AAA seems to have left him, now were stuck with strikeouts that Raburn and Inge would laugh at, and weak grounders on in the infield.

Who cares? It's not like Delmon is hitting. Also he has to realize that he is hurting his team by playing LF.

Give Eldred a few more series for crying out loud. Hell they gave Inge 11 years and in 102 games last year he hit only 3 homers... And we still won the division by 15 games...I bet if Eldred played in 102 games he would have at least 15+ homers.. But they way things are in panic mode in Detroit now he probably will only get 4 more at bats to try and figure things out.. Heck Raburn's track record doesn't start till late July and he get's chance after damn chance... Give brad a few more cracks at it..

And Now that Young has a short leash it is a perfect time to sit him down and tell him to shut-up and just hit.... He should never see the field and i would tell him as much to his face that his defense is hurting the team..

Bob, I don't understand your argument.

You constantly complain about how bad Raburn is, and we should cut him, but you want to keep giving chances to a guy who's worse.

Look at his MLB track record, hell, even his minors numbers, what happened in Toledo was some kind of a fluke.

The guy gives away at-bats, something we can't afford right now with the holes we already have. The trade off that he might hit a homerun or two does not counter the fact that the rest of the time he's going to be a very easy out.

So what if he would hit 15 homers in 102 games, you're still talking about Adam Dunn 2011 type numbers the rest of the time.

This guy does not help our lineup, he hurts it. If you're going to bash Raburn, who's a much better hitter, you gotta see the truth about Eldred too.

Probably a good thing the Cubs don't think like you. Bryan LaHair would still be in AAA right now.

The difference is LaHair was/is hitting.

Eldred is not.

Plus this is a bad comparison, LaHair has had good number in the majors before, .885 OPS last year in 20 games. Career .834 OPS, small sample, but he's producing. He's has 10 less career PA's than Eldred.

Eldreds best is .750 OPS, his career MLB OPS is .668 108 strikeouts in 295 PA's (do the math)

He's had 3 games. Let him have til Delmon comes back them make a more fair assessment. Not like the rest of the team has been tearing the cover off the ball. Why the quick hate?

It's not hate.

But we are fielding a bad lineup, Boesch is doing poorly, Avila, terrible, Peralta, terrible, santiago/raburn/kelly terrible.

I see giving him a try, but after 3 games it's clear he's not going to hit like he was in AAA, honestly I don't think he was a good idea to call up, but we had a hole and they decided to see what would happen.

We saw. Time to move on.

Dirks/Raburn/Young are better options at DH.

My point is that they both really had a half season each early in there careers in the majors and didn't stick. Sometimes you get lucky with a guy like Eldred. Give em another week and if he doesn't hit. No big loss. Not like there are a ton of other options right now.

For the record, LaHair k's almost as much as Eldred, but he does take more walks.

Well with Young out for a week and Raburn and Dirks playing in the field the dh spot is still empty.

Complaining about a guy who is 2-13, lol. Get hits in his next two AB and suddenly he's at .260. With Inge gone, DY suspended, offense a bit off kilter you have to see what guys can do. 2-13 is an awfully small sample size, regardless as you put it 'swings at everything'.

Bottom line, we have no better options in Toledo. What is Worth suddenly going to hit? He's not going to be a 750 OPS guy, so who else?

Face it, offensively, our minor league system sucks. There is no one.

Yeah people don't have to worry.. Eldred will only get till the end of the week to hit unlike Raburn who gets half a season to hit... Glad they cut Inge, and I hope Young and Raburn are next...Eldred probably won't make it but you have to at least give him a shot after what he did in Triple A.. Hopefully he will hit 5 homers between now and Friday and make the organizations decision harder. It is hard not to root for a 31 year old ballplayer.. Unlike how hard it is to root for guys like Inge, Raburn , and Young. (All for different reasons)......

Inge because he bitched about his role with the team year after freaking year. Raburn for how many games he costs the Tigers between March and July, and Young for freaking just being a privileged athlete who just does not get it..

Well said. Can you imagine the pressure on a guy like this. He knows his days are numbered as a professional baseball player and he is getting one last shot. If he produces he makes a significant amount of money. These other bums like Raburn and DY....they have guaranteed money for doing next to nothing.
