We still have Chris Houston as our #1 corner
We really don't have a solid #2
and our 3rd round pick out of ULL is going to compete for the Nickel

So why did we pass on Josh Robinson or Trumaine Johnson??

Oh, and our 2nd round pick is likely going to miss OTA's and the majority of the preseason... so I'm sure he'll have a great handle of the offense by the time he actually does get into game shape... not to mention his timing with Stafford.

I dunno... maybe Mayhew knows something the rest of us don't... preliminary reaction though is I just don't like what they did with 2 and 3 at all...

josh robinson wasn't there, if i remember right. and trumaine johnson is going to play safety. josh norman and boykin were the only CB choices.

I'd have taken a safety. lol

SO we get a Nickel corner (maybe) and are still rolling with Spievey?

Yipee!!

John Robinson and T. Johson both went 3rd round. I would ahve taken either over Broyles in 2nd round

Broyles will be ready for training camp. He was running for his pro day just earlier this week

I've bitched about the draft enough for one day. I'll just say I'm VERY underwhelmed and a bit puzzled at our picks and non-picks.

i'm hoping they have another larry foote type deal set up....but at CB instead of LB.

So Jacob Lacey basically is our #2 Corner. Which is probably not even a lateral move from Eric Wright - who was not good here. lol

I dunno... Whatever. There MUST be a plan we don't know about...

remember the coaches were high on spievey at the start of last year based on his improvement. if the game slows down enough for him and he improves at same or greater rate, maybe he will prove himself this year. i don't think he has reached his ceiling yet considering he switched to S and has played 2 years...but if he doesn't improve this year then the experiment definitely should be considered a complete failure.

Dude I been using that defense of Spievey as long as anybody on here. He regressed last year, if anything. And we all saw what we have behind him at that position, too...

It doesn't take three years to switch form cb to safety. He isn't very good.

regressed as the season went along, yes...but initially he had improved greatly from the year before. hard to say if he was injured, but that's always a possibility. it seemed to me teams figured out he was jumping things and discovered ways to burn him. if he learns from that and no longer gets burned...or more realistically has a drastic drop in burns, then the gamble will prove successful.

Yeah they figured things out like throw the ball in his direction.

About the only positive thing I can say about Spievey's safety play last year is:

Well, he's not as bad as Chris Harris

Who says he is just a nickle CB? Is that a known thing or is it just because you don't like the pick?

I saw on the twit feed a Schwartz comment about him as the nickel, but unsure if that was in proper context so take it for what it is worth. Unsure if anyone else has other sources or who you were asking, just mentioning it. I'm hoping he can be #2 but lack of will vs run might mean he is projected as pure nickel.

Not terrible tho, since most Os today are running a ton of 3+ WR sets.

I'm not saying Spievey is a stud or even shown to be average, but solely based on stats his numbers for tackles, ints, and others are comparable to those for the starting Strong Safeties for NYG and SF...so is part of the problem the team D overall? The chemistry, confidence in guys accomplishing their tasks on given plays, etc.? Not saying Spievey isn't a problem, nor suggesting it isn't him who creates the breakdowns that screw over others...but the D overall was a letdown, not just Spievey...and that includes Suh, Fairley, Tullock, Avril, KVB, Delmas, and Houston.

If the coaches decide he is worth 1 more year, not much anyone on here can do about changing that.
