Get StartedBecause they clearly didn't trust him after the horrible lost fumble. They had absolutely zero running room and still ran the ball 2/3 of the time. How did we not make a bigger deal out of this?
Chiles only had one turnover and didn’t throw an interception!!!
Agreed, at a minimum he's not ready for B1G football but we lost that game in the trenches - 5 sacks and 6 TFLs. Carter is looking like he's definitely not the guy and Chiles at a minimum isn't ready and maybe he's not the guy for the future but I don't think Schuster is the guy either.Because they clearly didn't trust him after the horrible lost fumble. I dont trust Chiles to drop back 5 times on a drive and not make at least 1 horrible decision. He's a poor man's Jameis Winston.
Chiles has 6 starts this year and got in every single game last year at Oregon state. At some point it's just who he is. Even the 1 big throw he had was an under throw to Marsh that should've been a walk in tdAgreed, at a minimum he's not ready for B1G football but we lost that game in the trenches - 5 sacks and 6 TFLs. For me, I always thought this was a throw-away, rebuilding season. I'd rather deal with the frustration of Chiles, give him time
Maybe if we ever have a better-than-MAC level OL, this experience will help Chiles and we'll have an experienced QB in the room. I just don't see the point in losing all the same games (probably) with a 6th year QB that's definitely not coming back next year. It sucks, I don't like either option but with the future in mind, I think Chiles is the guy for now.
We'll see, if Chiles is still this bad after we've gotten through this meat grinder and are playing bottom half B1G teams, then I'll have to reconsider.
I don’t disagree with any of this but I don’t think Schuster gives us a chance of winning these games - at least not OSU and Oregon.Chiles has 6 starts this year and got in every single game last year at Oregon state. I just fear we have a Lewerke 2.0 situationI don’t disagree with any of this but I don’t think Schuster gives us a chance of winning these games - at least not OSU and Oregon.
Does Schuster give us a measurably better chance of making a crappy bowl game? Is that worth more than possibly getting Chiles more experience given that Schuster is done after this season? I couldn’t care less about the Motor City or Pinstripe Bowl.
For now, I’d rather run the Chiles experiment longer. If we lose to Iowa and/or Indiana and Chiles has bad games, I may feel differently.
It’s a shit situation - for me, that’s the lesser of 2 bad choices.
Not this one again...I just fear we have a Lewerke 2.0 situation
Pretty fair early comp. Showed flashes early but got worse every year. Thankfully the defenses back then were good enough to at least get us to a random shit bowl. Not this one again...
Not really. In his first year as a starter, Lewerke threw for 2,800 yards, completed 59% and had a 3:1 TD to INT ratio (20 & 7) and the team was 10-3. He clearly got off to a way better start than Chiles - on a way different team.Pretty fair early comp. Showed flashes early but got worse every year. Those lewerke teams had far better rosters. I'm not even sure 1 guy off this roster would be a starter on that team his 1st year. The next couple years dantonios recruiting went in the tank and he was forced to do more and failed miserablyNot really. Like I said in the past, after the shoulder injury Lewerke wasn't the same but he wasn't the reason we were losing games later in his career. Just like I don't think Chiles is the reason we're losing games right now - although he owns a lot of the blame for the BC game. He made several terrible mistakes in that game, but he got the lead and then our secondary gave up a 48yd TD with less than 2 minutes on the clock. As bad as he was, other than the defensive line, we did everything we could as a team to lose that game.
I'm not going to compare Chiles to anyone at this point for a couple of reasons but there's no doubt he has to get better. I just don't think putting in a 6th year transfer QB is the right move for the team long term and I'd rather take my chances at Chiles improving over the course of a throw-away season than start next year with no experience in the QB room.
I suppose we could keep getting transfer QBs, but as we saw with Kenneth Walker, the transfer portal isn't necessarily a sustainable model.
Maybe in 2017 when they went 9-3. But the 2018 & 2019 rosters were garbage - it was the beginning of the end for Dantonio. The devastation of the 2016 class was definitely being felt. Those lewerke teams had far better rosters. I'm not even sure 1 guy off this roster would be a starter on that team his 1st year. We've already established that you're a lewerke relative long ago. Let's just move onMaybe in 2017 when they went 9-3. But the 2018 & 2019 rosters were garbage - it was the beginning of the end for Dantonio. The devastation of the 2016 class was definitely being felt.
Either way, their first years as starters aren't at all comparable - Lewerke's first year there was solid. It wasn't until he got injured and the team started sliding that any issues arose.
All I ever said about Lewerke is that he wasn't the reason we were losing games - that's true. And I'm not the one who keeps bringing it up . I'm also not relitigating that argument, just making the point that it's not even close to a good comparison, because it's not - Lewerke's first year as a starter was nothing like Chiles' has been so far. Probably a good idea to move on.We've already established that you're a lewerke relative long ago. Let's just move on
Wow, the press is finally coming around and backing up what we've been saying on this board for 2+ years, and they're bringing the receipts.Michigan State football linebacker graded as one of the worst in the country by PFF

As if we all didn't know Haladay stinks, now we have proof.
