RAPID FIRE.
Totally Tigers

Take 1 hot-button topic, 2 bloggers and 5 questions and you?ve got our newest blog, Rapid Fire.

Here are the guts and the glue of our topic.

It only took 3 months for MLB owners and the Players Association to start talking face-to-face (or mask-to-mask in this case) about the plan for a 2020 season. While we await the official proposal that has been made ? and the counter-proposal ? Holly and Kurt are going to address the concerns over what may be the weirdest season ever.

Holly and Kurt have just 2 sentences max for each question to state their opinions. Let?s get to it!

1. What is your personal preference to see this year ? no baseball or a 50ish-game season?

2. Do you believe a 50-ish game season would be more than a marginal benefit to the Tigers?

3. It is rumored that at least 8 (maybe more) owners do not want a baseball season at all. Do you believe that Chris Ilitch is one of those?

4. What do you believe to be the catalyst for MLB?s rapid about-face that saw the 50-game mandate threat turn to no baseball at all and then finally to a real meeting and proposal?

5. Under the expanded playoff format, more than half of MLB?s teams would qualify for the playoffs. How would you feel if the Tigers made them?

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers another way for readers to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? and starvin? and pleadin? for the crack of the bat peeps.

Today, we center the discussion on the latest roadblock in the negotiations that will decide the fate of baseball in 2020.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

MLB owners and the Players Association continue to negotiate over a contract that would allow a baseball season in 2020. Last week, Commissioner Rob Manfred ?100% guaranteed? a season and was ready to implement his 50-game mandate. But when Tony Clark responded (sic) ?Tell us where and when?, Rob then said there was now a good chance there would be no season. This came within an hour of a conference call with owners.

Less than 24 hours later, Manfred and Clark met for the first time in 3 months. After offering what was essentially the same proposal 3 times since March, MLB came up with a new offer. Unfortunately, owners declared they had an agreement while the PA said it was still a proposal.

The owners are (at this moment) firm on their offer of a 60-game season. The MLBPA has countered with 70 games. Reports have a number of owners saying the union?s proposal is ?dead on arrival?. The difference between both sides is 10 games.

Please participate in the survey so we can gauge where you stand when it comes to the latest stalemate in the negotiations between the MLB owners and the players.

What do you believe is the primary rationale for why the owners are digging in?

1. Historical adversarial relationship with players.

2. Prepping for 2021 CBA negotiations.

3. COVID-19.

4. Many owners don?t want a season at all.

5. Stalling in order to force the shortest season possible.

6. Don?t believe owners are the problem.

7. Not sure.

8. Other.
