THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers
The Saturday Survey offers readers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? peeps.
Today, we center the discussion on Casey Mize and the continued delay in his promotion to Detroit.
As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!
Now that the Tigers have passed the 7-game mark, bringing up Casey Mize would delay the start of his service time until next year. However, he still is sitting in Toledo.
Other teams have brought up their top prospects this year. John Smoltz stated earlier this week that Mize has nothing left to prove and should be brought up. Mize is currently only playing simulated games and not facing live batting.
Currently, the Tigers? starting rotation is only partially set with 3 slots already determined and 2 others filled at the last moment and with ?openers? rather than starting pitchers. Boyd, Turnbull and Nova, with a tandem of Fulmer/Norris take 4 of the slots with the 5th opening just now given to Tyler Alexander.
It is believed that Mize has not yet made an appearance because of a number of issues:
Avoiding Super 2 status (arbitration-related).
Covid?related problems that have made the schedule (and season) unpredictable.
Rain outs.
The desire to showcase current pitchers and then flip them for prospects.
Come (app.) August 20th, the Tigers would avoid Mize having earned Super-2 status if they were to call him up then.
Please participate in the survey in order to convey where you stand on Mize and when he will been promoted to the big club.
Will the Tigers call him up this year? If so, then what do you believe will be the primary motivation for bringing him to Detroit?
1. Approximately within the next week when that 5th starter is needed.
2. They?ll wait until shortly after August 20th.
3. They?ll wait until they trade a starting pitcher or one goes on the IL.
4. Later in September.
5. Not this year.
6. Not sure.
Vote.
