Tigers Designate David McKay For Assignment.

Outfielder Parker Meadows and right-handers Logan Shore, Jason Foley and Alex Lange have all been added to the Tigers’ pool, the team announced Thursday morning.
Meadows, the No. 44 pick in 2018 and the younger brother of Rays star Austin Meadows, is the most highly regarded of the bunch. He posted strong numbers that summer but struggled in his first full season, slashing .221/.296/.312 against older competition in Class-A. He’s ranked 13th among Detroit prospects at MLB.com and at FanGraphs.
Lange, 24, was the better of the two pitching prospects acquired from the Cubs in the trade that sent Nick Castellanos to Chicago last year. He’s pitched as a high as Double-A already and could be an option for the Tigers by next year.
Foley was an undrafted free agent in ’16 who missed the 2018 season due to injury but returned with solid numbers in Class-A Advanced last year.
Shore, a former second-round pick of the A’s, was sent to Detroit as a PTBNL in 2018’s Mike Fiers trade. Shore’s changeup is considered a potentially plus pitch, but the rest of his arsenal isn’t regarded nearly as highly.

SO YOU WANT TO BE THE MANAGER?
Totally Tigers

Once again, readers get a chance to make their own decisions about the Tigers. So You Want to Be the Manager? offers you that opportunity.
The segment puts our readers to the test in determining how they would handle decisions as the skipper. So let?s see what your next assignment is as Tiger manager!
(Comments may be extended for this segment, but please do not exceed 8 sentences in your response.)

In his short career with the Tigers and until this season, Niko Goodrum has mostly filled the role of utility IF/OF. He has been very valuable and deservedly, he was given a chance this year to start full-time at shortstop and he has fared pretty well so far with a .991 fielding percentage.
But offensively, it?s been a different story. Over the course of 113 at bats, Niko is hitting .186. That is certainly one of the reasons that he is no longer leading off. The other reason, of course, is the emergence of Victor Reyes who has been extremely hot offensively.

Over the last couple of weeks, since being called up from Toledo, Willi Castro has been getting a good amount of playing time and recently some shortstop. It?s only been a few games, but he has work to do at short. But offensively, he is beginning to emerge. Castro, through 44 at bats, is hitting .364.

So taking all of this into account and looking at the future of the club, how do you handle the playing time at shortstop for the rest of 2020? It?s a tough decision. Both players have merit, but it is your team to field.

Please participate in the survey in order to state your case. Don?t forget to come back and check the results and include your comments that support your choice.

As manager, who would you choose to give more time at SS, Niko Goodrum or Willi Castro?

1. Both should play, I would give them equal time for the rest of 2020.

2. Castro is not ready to play full time, but yes, continue to give him opportunities.

3. Niko has been hurt, but he should still be the starter and Castro should be his backup while playing other positions.

4. Goodrum should play full time at short for the remainder of the season.

5. Castro should be given the job and should play full time for the rest of the season.

6. Neither one should play shortstop.

7. I don't know.

8. Other.

Vote.

Gregory Soto, DET | RosterResource
In his first appearance since picking up saves on back-to-back days last weekend, Soto could not hold a 2-1 lead over the Twins on Friday. After walking the first two batters of the inning, the 25-year-old lefty allowed a game-tying single to Jorge Polanco and was removed with nobody out. It?s likely that the Tigers? closer committee wasn?t going to take shape had Soto succeeded for a third consecutive time. Now, it could be someone else?s turn the next time a save situation arises.

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers readers the opportunity to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? peeps.
Today, we center the discussion on the team?s recent recovery from their 9-game losing streak and the stretch run of the season with one month to go.
As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons (4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

The Detroit Tigers have recently pushed back from a 9-game losing streak to win 3 straight series. They sit at 2 games out of reaching the playoffs currently (through Thursday?s games) due to MLB?s expanded playoffs and shortened season.

With just one month left to play, what should be the team?s primary focus and goal for the rest of this year?

1. Achieve playoff status.

2. Stay focused on rebuilding.

3. They can do both!

4. Maintain status quo and wait for next year.

5. Not sure.
