Stafford gone to rams

Goff is nothing more than a stop gap. He?s a low end league starter. Can be a game manager on a really good team, but that?s it.

Still better in the playoffs than Stafford.

Most wins of any QB other than Brady in the last 4 years.

What did Stafford do with the #2 D the year he had that...oh, and also CJ? Right...0 playoff wins.

Stafford is also older and more injury prone.

There is NOTHING you can say that makes me believe Stafford is better than Goff. NOTHING!

Stafford carried a lesser team with good offense. Goff had issues despite more support. Stafford has less turnovers too since Caldwell fixed him

We'll see how talented Goff is when he has less to work with this year. Can he keep the passing game going. But would be nice if Campbell/Lynn can get us a run game other than 175 carries from a good rookie back. More Swift and good number 2 back that gets good YPC too and start converting more power situations

I don't care if you think Stafford is better than Goff or not.....but look at it this way.....

If you had switched those guys 4 years ago......Stafford is a Ram from '17 on and Goff a Lion....do you think the teams would have been as good, the same or worse?

I think it's clear the Rams would have been better and the Lions worse. Are there any stats to PROVE it.....of course not....but Stafford is the only one of the two that made his team better than it should have been in that time frame. And yes, I am aware the Rams played in a Super Bowl in that time frame.

We will find out.

See what Stafford does if he can win games for the Rams with top 10 passing offense. We'll see if run game and defense support him like they supported Goff. Staley is out, other changes I'm sure

See what Goff does if he can make the passing offense look good on a bad team with less support. Lions won't win until they get other things figured out besides QB. Like maybe try playing a little defense, maybe force like 25 turnovers for a change or at least top 15 in rushing. Can the Lions be like 30th in rushing and Goff leads the Lions to a top 10 PPG offense. Now that would be something. Especially considering the new questions at WR now

I think the Rams would probably be worse and the Lions better. Not just because of the QB play, but the amount of salary going to each player. The Lions would be able to surround Goff with more talent and LA would have less talent because of the amount of money being paid to Matt.

Goff got big money from 2019 on though. They had a really good defense this year and good run game and Kupp/Woods/solid TEs. Like Goff had everything and still didn't get it done. Which is why he was traded plus a big contract number.

his cap hit was only $10.6M in 2019

2020 was his first big cap hit, $28.8M

Not my point.

Also, as LKP pointed out....Goff's cap hit was 33% higher than Staffords this year yet they have a better OL, WR, TE, DL, CB's and S's. You can build a good team with a highly paid QB.

you can have a good team with a highly paid QB...but they built that team while the QB wasn't highly paid. They added the players when Goff was still cheap. I don't think they really added anything of significance last off season.

Why does that matter....they still had to fit them all under THIS years cap, right? If anything, its MORE of an accomplishment to keep a team together after the QB's big cap hits start. And if i'm not mistaken, they will keep Stafford, Donald and Ramsey NEXT year, too.

Anyway......my point wasn't a cap issue......just if you switched QB's with EVERYTHING else being the same.

The Rams were 43-11 over that timeframe, my guess is they would have had a similar overall record with Matt. Not sure about playoff success though.

The Lions probably wouldn't have been any worse, record wise. The Lions were 23-40-1, hard to be any worse than that!

Still Bob Quinn picking the players and Patricia picking the defense. Stafford did hinder us from making changes either. They would have picked the players Patricia wanted. Draft the same. So Tavai, Will Harris, AO, Tracy Walker, Hand, Austin Bryant, Swift, KJ, Julian Okwara and Jonah Jackson and Stenberg, Tabor 2017 etc

Don't see that changing

No amount of cap space would have saved the drafts we had and the free agents they targeted (ex Pats)

Stafford didn?t play in about 9-10 of those games. Some he ?played? but for like 5 minutes like the Tampa Bay game this year. Also he missed 8-9 games last year. Which we lost all of them.

so I guess the Rams would be worse since Matt misses so many games?

Rams won a "win and your in" game with some guy named John Wolford (who had never thrown a pass before in an NFL game). The Lions lose EVERY game Stafford doesn't play in and would have had a good chance to go 0-32 the last two years with Chase Daniel or David Blough in the game.

But yeah, lets make a debate about whether Goff is as good as Stafford.

you do know that the QB that started for AZ in that game was Chris Streveler, another QB that had never thrown an NFL pass.

And Murray finished it.....scoring 0 points while he was in there for most of the 2nd half.

I do stand corrected. Murray played the first series then hurt his ankle. Streveler came in to replace him. Murray played the final 3 series in the 4th quarter on the injured ankle.

I don't know how we got sidetracked, but there is no evidence that Stafford would have made the Rams better over the past 4 years. I believe, given your hypothetical "Freaky Friday" QB swap, that the Rams would have had a worse record with Matt and the Lions better with Goff just on the fact that Matt missed 10 games and Goff was healthier.

That and Goff has proven he is able to help manage his team to win in the playoffs whereas Stafford never did, even when he had roughly equivalent support from rest of the team.

Until Stafford wins in the playoffs, I do not buy into him being better than Goff. Managing the game - not turning the ball over, not getting into 3rd and long then slinging it on a prayer, actually converting on 3rd downs, controlling the football game, LEADING the team to a playoff win - is something Goff has actually accomplished.

His youth provides greater durability at this point. Stafford will likely miss at least 6 games next year because his body has taken a beating. Not saying he isn't tough or that he is fragile, but the human body can only withstand so much for so long. Feel bad for him, to be honest...not saying he didn't try his best and give his all...just saying Goff has also but Goff has had that intangible thing of luck or whatever it was that put him on the winning side in the playoffs.

At the moment, Erik Kramer is still the best Lions QB in the Super Bowl era because he actually won a fucking playoff game.

The dude Matt Rhule picked up from the Canadian Team practice squad was better than Stafford. 0 points against one of the shittiest defenses in the league. Great job stafford!
