Stafford on new coach hunt

I've seen a few posts by people who are upset that Stafford is, in their view, demanding to be included in the search for a new coach. Then I came across this:

Lewand indicated the Lions have already started the coaching search and have fielded calls about the position. Mayhew said that the players will not have input in the team's coaching search.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford said he would not mind having input, although he realizes it likely will not happen.

"Yeah, sure," Stafford said. "But I'm not sure that will happen. It's not something I am concerning myself with at this point."

Not sure how or why people took this to mean he was being a prima donna or overstepping his role.

He sounded more lost than anything. Maybe like they baby him and he thinks that there's a slight hope that they may ask him. More than anything I think he was flustered by being asked questions he had no answers for, not that he expected to be included. He wouldn't get any better that way. People can say what they want about mayhew, but I like what he says about what they're looking for in their next coaching staff: they need a leader of men. I really like the way Mike Tomlin addresses the media. I'd hope our next coach has those well-spoken leader like qualities as well, I know we can't have everything though.

Stafford want's to be in on it so he can find another coach that will keep the media off his back. He is not accountable on any level. Stafford is getting paid and that's about it. He is not the leader of this team either which just goes to show you how screwed the Lions are with him. Bush pretty much called him out for preventing the player's team meeting and this probably put the nail in the coffin for the team chemistry moving forward.

This has nothing to do with anyone being babied, pampered, or accountable. He didn't say "Hey, I want to be involved in this". A reporter asked him and he answered. He also said he didn't think he would be. No big deal.

Can't fault the kid for being upset. He probably feels responsible and his known those guys for 5 years. Did his interview and why wouldnt he want input they will be coaching him. I am sure everyone one of the guys on the roster wish they had input.

Idk why he can't put a complete game together but its maddening. For a while our first halves were shit then he would play well in second halves and either win or come close. Now he is lights out in the first half and garbage late. I just can't comprehend it.

Of course wins are more important but Staff and the boys put points on the board. Unfortunately, the offense took a shit the last half of the year.

Time to concentrate on the draft, get Staff 1-2 more playmakers and build that fn defense so they can stop people

Defense would be fine if the offense would give them a break.

3rd overall, 1st at home for time of possession. I was surprised by that. They give up a few to many turnovers which hurts the defense. But the defense hurts themselves by stupid penalties and not getting enough turnovers themselves.
