Stafford thinks the breakout player on offense will be

Was Quduus really that great? I just don't think he fit what Quinn and Austin want to do on D. Killebrew does, evidently

Im not even sure killebrew sees the field. Bush probably plays over him and abdul qudus was lights out last year. Leave it to the lions to get the most out of a relatively unknown player. ...FINALLY....and then just let him walk for a couple mil a year.

Lights out? Now you're exaggerating....

I don't trust Bush either. He's a decent player but he's injury prone as well. If Killabrew can work on his coverage skills then we're gonna be ok. He's already a sure tackler and he's a step up from Ihedagbo. Might not make an immediate impact but he's most definitely a kid that I'm keeping my eye on...

Attaboy. Good for you. He still wasn't lights out. Good player but lights out?? Give your head a shake lol

Oh but he was the #1 FA on PFF tho......lmao. Cmon!

0 ints as a Lion, yep, lights out!!! We'll never see a safety that talented in a Lions uni ever again.

Exactly lol. Not knocking on Q because he was solid. He played bigger than he was and he was fearless. Killebrew could be the same player. People act like fucking Ronnie Lott walked out the door....

They lost Isa Abdul-Quddus. Before their Week 9 bye, the Lions allowed opposing quarterbacks to post a QBR of 83.0, the worst figure in football. (Worse than the Saints!) They inserted Abdul-Quddus into the starting lineup at safety for James Ihedigbo during the bye week, and afterward, their pass defense was remarkably better. The Lions improved to 23rd down the stretch with a QBR allowed of 67.0; not great, and Abdul-Quddus wasn't the only force driving that improvement, but he sure helped. It would have been nice to hold onto a 26-year-old safety who helps out on special teams and apparently has some upside as a starter in the backfield, but the Dolphins snatched him up on a three-year, $12.8 million deal.

IMO.......losing IAQ was a big loss. No, he isn't Ronnie Lott.....but he fit Austin's scheme quite well.

Football is a funny game......superstars are players that could succeed in ANY system (see Calvin Johnson 2014 & 2015) but winning teams need to have starters like IAQ. Guys who don't crush your salary cap but perform well in the system they're playing. Isa did that. He played at a pretty high level when given the chance.

Hopefully, Killebrew can step into that role. Personally, I would have liked to see us lock up Quaddus in case Killebrew doesn't. 4th round picks are hardly sure things. Signing IAQ would have been the smart thing to do while Killebrew learned the NFL game.

Maybe Q wanted nothing to do with Detroit. Ever think of that? Any of you?

You're right bro. 4th rds are never sure things. What rd was Q drafted again? ;)

That's EXACTLY my point. ISA made a handful of special teams tackles his rookie year. That's it. I'm not sure I expect much more than that from Killebrew THIS year.

Like I said.....the smart move would have been to bring Quaddus back while Killebrew develops. Now.....we're left with nothing but question marks and let a solid starting caliber S walk for what is essentially a 2 year/ $9 M deal.

That's why Killebrew has a chance immediately to make an impact. He's basically the same player as Quaduus. Sure, it would have been nice to have Q but who says he even wanted to be here? Everyone loves talking about how cheap he was for the Dolphins. How does anyone know if we even offered Q a deal? Judging from the moves via free agency and the draft, i'm willing to say they offered him something. Maybe he just wanted to take his talents to South beach lol.

Could be. I thought I remember reading a couple articles saying he wanted to come back. Either way......I don't think Killebrew is anywhere near as good as Qaddus in coverage. Not even in the same stratosphere. I think Killa plays special teams and short yardage packages (barring injuries) this year.

For me it was just refreshing to finally see someone in our secondary making plays at full speed....then we met him go for peanuts.

Exactly. Might not be an all pro player.....but he fit this scheme well.

Not the worlds biggest loss.....but for what he got from Miami I would have liked to see him back in Honolulu blue!!

I must have missed that he wanted to come back.
And Q wasn't that great in coverage anyways. One thing he was though, he was a sure tackler and fearless for his size....bit small for his position.
Killa could win that other Safety spot. I keep reading that this kid they picked up from the Patriots is ready to shine. Don't know jack about this kid tho. Anyone else got info on him?

Iirc he got picked in the second, his play was a mixed bag and could never hold the starting spot with the Pats.

Hopefully the Pats slept on him and Quinn is taking advantage of the situation...

Rafael Bush - DB - Lions
Rafael Bush is believed to have a "leg up" in the Lions' competition at strong safety.
Glover Quin is locked in as the playmaker at free safety. After losing Isa Adbul-Quddus to the Dolphins, the Lions signed Bush and Tavon Wilson before drafting Miles Killebrew in the fourth round. Bush played just 21 snaps last season before tearing his pec. In 2014, he started seven games for the Saints.
