Steve Deace - Kid Gloves Are Off

Michigan is nothing like the greasy SEC schools or others when it comes to recruiting. I?m sure there are aspects of the ?process? that are the same everywhere.

Take Rashan Gary. I don?t know Chris Partridge but I know one of his best friends. M had to fight tooth and nail to fend off other schools offering ...so much more.

When it comes to the Cass Tech and King kids, it doesn?t matter - MICHIGAN is MICHIGAN.

But on the national scale, we are targeting different types of kids and selling the ?Michigan Experience? and lifelong recruitment.

We will never truly compete for that 5-star kid from Biloxi whose got Bama, LSU, UGA and a Florida after them.

That may be true, but there is PLENTY of talent coming to Michigan, and more than enough resources to work with in order to be a national power and constantly at the top of the B10.

I would not be as mad if Michigan was consistently pulling in classes in the 50s, because we could easily cite that the team is just not very good.

There is more than enough talent on this team to win the conference. There are plenty of coaches in the college ranks that are able to scheme and coach above other teams that get more talent. Having the right coach with this talent would be a big time success.

This is kinda why that nagging voice in my head keeps telling me: "Stop watching, stop caring."

Not because I want us to get down in the mud with the rest of them, but because no one in charge (ostensibly the NCAA) will do anything about it.

I'm more frustrated with how programs like Iowa and Wisconsin can coach up less talented players and we seem stuck in Excuses for the past decade.

That's why I'll never understand the fans that have the "it's Harbaugh or failure" attitude in regards to coaching at Michigan. I always hear "if Harbaugh can't get it done at Michigan, no one can.". Practically every coach in the B1G could be doing the exact same thing he is doing with our roster. Some would be doing better.

Without question. I think guys like Pat Fitzgerald, (hate to say this) Dantonio, Chryst, any Ohio State coach, and maybe Frost (still work to prove for him) would take this talent to the top. Meanwhile, we are stuck with a team that looks lost and hopeless.

Less than a year ago we crushed Wisconsin, ran for over 300 yards against them, and beat them by more than they beat us this year.

You make it sound like it's been a consistent problem, when really it's been a couple games this season due to hiring an incapable assistant, and trying to force a bad offensive gameplan on a team that shouldn't run it.

Beating good teams on the road and beating the primary rival (OSU) has been a consistent problem for a long time now.

Even one of the better teams (last season) did not even belong on the field with OSU in 2nd half. I could not imagine how much worse it would have been against Bama/Clemson/Oklahoma.

Right. And nobody was calling it the collapse of Wisconsin football.

I?m just saying it?s always ?something? - ?young team? etc.

Vic, at this point, excuses or explanations are irrelevant. The team has not won a championship since 04. That's the only thing that matters. The rest of it is noise. The program has been good, sometimes great in the last two decades. That's all.
