Suh restructure saves 7.6 mil

Cap is $123m this year. We're at $116.5m according to cheeno's link.

True but you take out Burleson and Mike Thomas in that 116.5 and you got some room. Burleson's base salary number goes up alot. He takes another pay cut or he's gone with only 1.5 in dead space left. 3.5 million for Thomas, no way he's getting that. Plus cut Best for 800 K in room. Lions will have more room than 7 million going into 2014 free agency. Alot depends on LTBE escalators in the contracts too. Plus the cap could go up to 124 or 125 million. It won't up 2 million this year unexpectedly.

Monster is talking this year and you're talking next year. I don't think you're on the same page.

True but looking at the numbers it's 5.5 million cutting Burleson and 3.5 million cutting Thomas +.8 for Best from the 120 cap commitment number next year from spottrac for 2014. That's 110.2 in cap commitments which is about 12.8 million in room compared to a 123 total cap allowed. 124 or 125 it's even better. And the only thing that matters for the draft is the 1st round pick. Due to the top 51 rule and cheap contracts for Round 2-7 the difference is minimal. So about 9 million in space. You saw what the Lions did with 9 million in space this offseason.

And this all before a Stafford or Suh extension. They get one of those done and the Lions are sitting pretty in 2014.

They are going to have to re-do his again next year. His cap hit next year is over $20M.

They don't have too. That 9 million in space is with Suh and Stafford having large numbers. But they will extend Suh and Stafford most likely and have even more room. They can't restructure either of them next year only extend.

Get them to take a pay cut. I'm starting to think Suh will be a free agent soon..his cap numbers along with Staff is just too big.

It's big but isn't killing the Lions. You have to look at the whole picture not just the giant numbers. Stafford has a huge number and the Lions are fine this year.

Stafford will be extended, he's the franchise. Prboably around what Calvin got.

Suh all depends on how much money he wants. Just because he has 20 million cap number, doesn't mean he's getting a 20 million dollar a year deal. He'll probably be the highest paid DT though around 12 million per.

Suh and Stafford are going to get the upper hand soon. With their huge salaries the Lions won't be able to afford to franchise them (just like CJ last year). I doubt they will be able to afford all three anyway.

They are affording all 3 now. And Stafford and Suh will be much lower for 3 years or so after their extension.

That is very true that they can't franchise them. It's the dumbest rule ever that it goes by their cap number. Stafford technically isn't making 20 million per year based on the original contract so his franchise tag shouldn't 24-25 million but it would be. Suh got a 5 year 60 million originally. That should be his next contract IMO. 12 million per is the highest paid DT still by a good amount. The franchise tag number is 8.4 for DTs.

It favors the players for sure. Once Suh or Staff get close to their last year of the contract they have the Lions by the balls. CJ's cap number goes up to $18-$20M in 2015. They are going to be screwed at some point.

Dude, u said we were at 4.7 mill in space now. I was just pointing out that you're a bit off. Should be about 6.5

4.7 was reported by Birkett.

Spotrac usually sucks by the way.

Sometimes it can be out of date. It's not right now though, they've been updating it frequently since the start of FA, wouldn't be suprised if they have Delmas up by the end of the day. The numbers are solid.

Ya, I went on there yesterday to look at backus old deal and he was already gone.

Birkett is spot on though and it's 4.7 in space less whatever for Delmas.
