does anybody have any news regarding that? they are suppose to meet this week.

and any idea what the contract will be if and when they agree?

grandy, i understand but if they do what do you tihnk it could be?

No clue, haven't been following it closely.

I would imagine he wants to be one of the highest, if not the highest, paid defensive players in all of football.

http://www.spotrac.com/rankings/nfl/average/defense/limit-25/

Average Salaries - Defensive Players
1. Mario Williams - $16MM
2. Clay Matthews - $13.2MM
3. Greg Hardy - $13.116MM (Franchise tag)
4. Ndamukong Suh - $12.7MM

Clay Matthews signed 5 years, $66MM w/$20.5MM guaranteed
Mario Williams signed 6 years, $96MM w/$24.9MM guaranteed

He'll probably be in that ballpark if the Lions re-sign him, with cap relief in the earlier years (when Staff/CJ cap numbers go up) and cap heavy numbers in the later years.

the Cap hit is my big question as i believe it is for us all

I think LKP posted something a while back about what his cap hit might be if we extended him, but I think it all depends on the size of the deal. So speculation about his cap hit is pretty pointless in my opinion.

i dont put a lot of stock into what LKP says i'd believe Grandy, tony mitch and monster over LKP any day

I would look at something similar to geno Atkins, if they simply do an extension.
Which would leave the cap hit at 22 in 2014, 17 in 2015, then between 9-11 for 2016-2018.

If they restructure this year as part of the extension, expect this year around 17M, next year at 17m then 14-16M the remaining years.

He is a DT he doesn't deserve to be paid as top defender in the league.

LOL I know more about the cap than all of you combined. And now everyone is going through the roster and finding we are practically hole less when they do. I'm right. Loaded with talent, we'll see if they live up to that talent.

You know what I like about you, nothing. Well at least you're humble..

plenty active....haha. A decent WR and second rate safety.

I have to argue this one. We picked up the #16 rated safety in the league last year.

That is not second rate at all. In fact, it gives the Lions an enviable pair of safeties.

Further more, he's a safety that understands the incoming D-coordinator and has strong leadership qualities, which will help guys buy into the system quicker.

No matter how you slice it, Ihedigbo was a solid signing for Detroit, and might even turn out to be a damned good signing.

Since the team is essentially done in FA already, and we don't need the cap space right away, it may not be a terrible idea to let Suh play it out. That's not to say they should let him go, just finally get rid of the specter of the old rookie scale contracts. We can always franchise him (DT will be about 10 million, very viable) in order to work out something long-term next year. And with it being a completely new contract, rather than extension or restructuring, it will be easier to design a contract that actually fits well within the team salary structure.

If we restructure now, Suh has greater leverage (holding that 20 million over our heads). Signing him next year puts the ball back in our court, where Suh has to decide between taking 10 million (less than he could get in a long term contract and no long-term stabilty) or something longer but more team friendly.

but his track record isn't that of a top 16 safety....he had one good year. We have seen this before. If he was truly the 16th best safety in the league he wouldn't taken the deal he got from the Lions....there would have been a demand for his services.

even if that were true, you're discounting the other thing ink said about familiarity with the new DC... that does help more than you're willing to admit.

either way you look at it, it's a solid signing that gives us two veteran safeties with a chance to draft and groom a young one while teaching the system that Austin is implementing
