all of a sudden the seahawks make it a game. nice 2nd half from russel wilson.

then mike smith almost blows it by kicking that dumb ass onside kick with 10 seconds left lmao. How do these dumb teams make it to the playoffs?

If I was Seattle I would have tried a FG rather than a hail mary.

When will coaches stop trying to ice kickers? And if you are going to do it then you absolutely cannot let them get a practice kick off. Stop trying to time it perfectly. Once the team starts walking up to the line of scrimmage call TO. NEVER GIVE HIM A PRACTICE KICK! Every kicker in the league would prefer a practice kick. You have a kicker on your team...just ask him.

And to compound the mistake he burns his last TO doing that. So after Atlanta's horrific kick off you screwed yourself. You could have had a legit shot to use the middle of the field and call TO and then have a chance at a long FG rather then a hail mary.

in his defense he couldn't tell the future and see smiths decision to be the dumbest coach on the planet and kick an onside kick giving the other team great field position to beat your team with 6 sec left lol

Nonetheless, icing the kicker never ever works. Sometimes the K misses but its never because he gets iced.

espn says theres a 8% more chance that you miss the kick following a timeout.

I wonder what the % is once the guy has a practice kick???

I just think it's incredibly stupid to give someone a practice kick. You have to call TO before they are lined up so they can't snap it. If he misses, he knows how to correct what he just did and if he makes it he now has confidence he can make.

And as a coach you are setting yourself up for a bunch of criticism. No one is going to be mad if you call TO to try and ice him. But they will be if you call TO and that guy misses that kick and then buries the next one.

I'm not sure you can really ice a kicker anyways. He knows the situation already. He knows the score and he's standing on the sideline watching the game and practicing kicks because he knows in a couple of minutes he may have to be out on the field to decide the game. Psychologically he's already thinking about the situation and he is well aware of what happens if he makes or misses it.

The last second ice where they make it once then having to do it again could be tough. Just as often though the guy misses the first one with the last second timeout then goes on to hit the next one.

Its just a missed kicked. You could just easily say the timeouts where a guy makes it afterward benefits because in a rush situation he would have missed it. Icing doesn't work. Its like saying "we practice against the hail mary". Hail mary is just luck.

Agree 100% with icing the kicker, coaches are control freaks so I guess it gives them the feeling of some element of control.
