I could be wrong, but is there a TON of big men in this draft? I've locked at several mocks, and the first round has every height at like 6-6 or higher. It's crazy.

There's definitely value to be found with big guys, no matter what pick.

A big 4 that can shoot 3s off the bench would be a fine draft pick, yes, replacement for Tolliver, but a replacement for Blake will still need to come from somewhere, FA market I suppose.

Remember that a Reggie Bullock was drafted in the same area Valentine is projected to go. Denzel's value probably dropped 10 spots or so only because of a poor tournament showing.

Agreed on this point. DV has the chance to be a starter, but only on a team where his primary job is to distribute. He won't be able to get off his own shot consistently in the NBA.....but he's a very good passer and plays with a high basketball IQ.

If a team drafts him run the offense and get others involved....occasionally making an open jumper....than he'll have a niche. Anyone expecting him to create off the dribble and kick out will be disappointed.

I don't think he'd fit well in Detroit.

With a mid to 20ish pick I'm not sure what people are expecting to get. Not many home runs from there. DV is a safe pick for a team looking to add pieces to make that next step. He doesn't need to start or displace anyone.

I can see adding a four with touch as a need but backup PG who can shoot a bit seems the most obvious fit.

Granted, SVG will likely go after that stretch shooter off the bench that he loves to replace Anthony Tolliver, and instead sign a top FA backup PG or include Reggie Bullock in a trade for one.

Ahaha. I didn't say I'm on the bandwagon, I'm just a bit more open now after seeing the backup PG situation unfold in the playoffs.

Quite honestly, any draft pick will fill a need, unless it's a 7 footer who can't shoot FTs.

looks like another 8 seed. They need to improve their starting lineup as well as the bench.

I'm not sure how this starting 5 could improve, Morris, Harris and Jackson are all locked up for awhile, Drummond will be, KCP is iffy, Durant sure isn't coming either.
We should take team chemistry into consideration as well, and how far each player has progressed.

get better players to replace MOrris, Harris or KCP as starters and push that guy to the bench. Any of those 3 would be a great bench player but are probably average or below average starters.

I like him as well, but I don't think Stan would as much as another stretch shooter.

They'll improve through chemistry. They are all really good players. Tobias Harris is a perfect stretch for Stan's offense. KCP defends like a maniac and looked to get a ton of confidence down the stretch. Morris is another stretch type player.

I think Reggie has the potential to be special, but he's gotta reign it in a little bit and play within himself.

Denzel is 6'5" and shot 44% from 3 last year, those guys aren't easy to find. He's not an elite athlete but has great ball skills and the best court vision of any college player I've seen in years. Obviously I'm biased and he might not a fit for the Pistons but I do think he has a great worth ethic which can't be said for Diamond Stone. He was a no show for a good part of the year and wasn't close to being a team player. When the ball went to him down low, it never came out. he had 15 assists in in 36 games

I don't think so at all. Our starting lineup is young and will improve. I honestly really really like our starting lineup. I think Johnson grew in the last month and a half, which is great.

Backup PG is a big need, the team cratered with Blake playing. The team also still needs more shooters. Getting Meeks back could help the latter, but we probably should not rely on him to play the whole season. The longer we see KCP, the more we have to consider that he'll never become a two way player (still a poor shooter and scorer overall) and should consider looking for an upgrade (KCP is still useful, but might be best off the bench). Johnson is young and should improve, but he's also a huge liability right now. His defense is adequate (which is actually high praise for a 19 year old), but his offense is catastrophic (and did not improve throughout the year). Either Johnson improves dramatically, or he will quickly become unplayable on a playoff team.

Valentine really would hit a lot of boxes if he pans out. He can run the point, shoot, and even shift down to the 2 or 3 if we really struck by injuries or development stalls.
