Tate: Defenses knew what we were doing

There is a rumor going around that the Saints installed new terminology this year, and sent their "old" playbook to 30 other teams.

Peyton might not have been happy about the similarities between his offense and Lombardi's.

Or that the Saint's window has slammed shut. They look to be two years away from paper bags at the Superdome.

One thing is clear.. we're not going to win a single game if opposing teams know what we're doing.

And to be honest, with the protections being called by opposing offenses, I'd be shocked to learn they only knew our offensive play calls.

We are in deep shit this season.

Lots of young players. They could be good in two years. They would have beat Atlanta if Brees was playing.

So Stafford gets the blame for this too?? Lol. This board is classic!! What's the guy supposed to do if no matter what, defenses already know what they're doing?? There's a 0% success rate if this is true. Not even Rodgers or Brady would succeed if defenses knew what the play was....it would be impossible for any QB.

Moly crap r u you freakin serious...for love of gawd Fire Lombardi now!

Probably the only 100% truthful thing said in this entire thread. Lombardi is the problem. The axe is the solution.

Let's give the problem the solution.

Exactly!! How the **** does this happen?! And to top it off, this is coming out now?! Three games in and all of a sudden defensive players are coming up to Golden Tate and telling him straight to his face that "we know what you're running"? That baffles the shit out of me to no end.....lol. Lets wait until 3 games to spill the beans on this huge story. This is a ****ing joke....Lombardi has gotta go! Stafford can't even check out of a play because the defense knows the lingo!! I'm floored lol....i'm done.

Something tells me it's not all that "sudden". If it happened in the Chargers game.. okay.. they have a smart D-Coordinator.

When it happens again against Minny, "Hey coach, that's the second team to say this shit. What the **** man?".

Third time against Denver and Im going to the media, because my jackass O-Coordinator and Head Coach aren't listening. Let's see how they like tomorrow's "lunch" with Mayhew.

They should rename the team to the Detroit "series of unfortunate events".

We're gonna find out what kinda balls Lombardi has real soon, cause they've been pretty much calling him out left and right.

I don't buy it! Not with social media out there. All it takes is one guy (Tate) to even breathe this to someone...anyone and its news. I'm surprised this isn't bigger news really. But its the Lions....nobody gives 2 shits about these guys lol.

It's the lions, most are just increasingly Numb to it all now as it's just another lost season added to the scrap heap of lost disappointing seasons.

I can even begin to adiquelty express how much of a complete assclown show Lombardi has turned this offense into..it's a complete unmitigated disaster

He needs to be fired now, the problem is it's the lions, not only will they not fire him or Caldwell but they'll keep staying the course for another 2 years making fans suffer through yet more endless unmitigated shit shows before they act because the franchise itself is a just a big a joke

Nowaiiiii!!!! Teams know that were going to:
A) run Bell up the middle for -1
B) slant left for 5 yards
C) slant right for 5 yards

No ****ing way!

Our offense looks nothing like the saints ....in any year. We have a qb "with a cannon arm" that cant throw a ball more than 7 yards.

- Tate was asked whether at some point Stafford has to make changes in the offense or if he needs to stick by what the coaches are telling him.

"I think it's a little bit of both, man," Tate said. "At some point, as a quarterback, this is your offense, this is really your team and you kind of got to take it over. In the game, in the heat of the battle, you're the guy that has to make the key call or make the key throw or make the game-winning play.

"But at the same extent, you still got to stay within the offense, and that's when Coach Lombardi comes in and the quarterback coaches and those guys. So you have to find a happy medium. There's got to be, there's a point where Matt's got to feel comfortable, 'Hey, I want Calvin [Johnson] to run this route or I want GT to run this route, Lance [Moore] or I want Theo [Riddick] out of the backfield doing this. That's when you got to kind of take it over and draw on your own whenever, you know the flow of the game, you're in there, you're actually in the midst of things. You got a feel for the game, and Matt's a very, very smart player.

Here is what I read from the above quote-

They players know this shit is happening....Tate talking about it on the radio is certainly not the first time it's been discussed. It seems, to me, that Tate is saying Lombardi is too stubborn to listen. I bet they have gone to Lombardi multiple times with suggestions on everything from personnel to routes to play calls.......and Lombardi is puffing out his chest and telling them to shut up and play. How can you not listen to your players??

I have been hard on Stafford the last 3 weeks.....and he deserves it.....no matter the play call he has missed some guys and thrown some bad passes.......but holy shit this is a big deal. Not nationally, of course, because as Tony mentioned.......it's the Lions.......but as a team struggling not only to win games but field ANY kind of offense........HOW THE **** HAS THIS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CALDWELL AND LOMBARDI?????

The other team calling out plays before they happen???? Even with the amount of film study and advanced scouting that should only happen a couple times a game.....in obvious situations.....4th and an inch or 3rd and long for instance.

I ****ing HATE Lombardi. I am convinced that he is 75% of the problem with this offense. Absolute JOKE he still has a job!!

Only the Lions. What an embarrassment, To have to learn it from the opponents is the biggest insult. So San Diego was calling out our plays and in film after the game none of the coaches said, "man, it's obvious they know most of our plays, we have to change everything." Then the same thing happens against Minny and still no changes.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me 3 times and we're the Detroit Lions.

Interestingly enough, this could give them an opportunity to take advantage of the situation. Mix it up, give the defense false signals, make them guess. It may only be effective for a few weeks, but if they're looking to turn things around, now is the chance.

However, are they clever enough to pull this off? Probably not. If this problem is ever mentioned again in the following weeks, the coaching staff should be let go immediately.

Sorry Grandy, it will take at least 10-12 games to 'install' changes to this complex offense.

Well, the first TD was like the first Lions play from scrimmage, right? And the 2nd TD was Quin's pick six.

So they went to the Lockers at half time and started talking "I know what plays they're running?" Yippee.
