The day Verlander touches a WS trophy.

The Tigers could never make the playoff again and JV will still go down as the greatest Tigers pitcher of all time.

I thought that too, then I thought about hal newhouser who has 2 mvps and a ws.

Championships mark great teams, not great players.

If the Tigers had not won in '68 would Kaline be any less great?

Its not just the ws, its the two mvps with it. Im giving verlander benefit of doubt with one mvp. Some peopke forget newhouser is a widely recognized legend.

Newhouser won one of his MVPs during the war year, and JV will likely far surpass him in longevity stats.

JV has to win a WS or Prince Hal will never get passed as the Tigers greatest pitcher... Gotta have that ring...

Thats why I give him benefit of doubt. He still dominated a league with ted williams in it. A knock you could use against Verlander is that he never has to pitch against miggy.

Add in his ROY and two no-hitters to go with his Cy Young and MVP and he's had one heck of career.

POSSIBLY. But it's hard to judge how many wins JV might get to. Still a long way off that.
