The Official Illinois vs ][V][ichigan Game Thread

Who knows maybe Iowa exposes Psu tonight. Doubtful but it is college football where teams go up 28-0, and almost lose.
2-3 south Carolina goes in to George with a back up qb and wins. This is why the playoff should be 8 teams or more.

Drama !

But in year five of Jim we should not have a former walk on carry the ball . It makes no sense.

k, i take back what i said a couple weeks ago. Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith and Waddle are light years better than our 4 WRs.

5 Power 5 Conference Championship Game winners and three at large.

They have got to do something about the fumbles. How many do they have on the season now, 18 or 19. That is not acceptable.

They're still winning so it's not a big deal that they're fumbling 3 times a game. It's also okay that Shea can't make a read in the run game, can't see open receivers and the coaches bench their 2 productive backs in favor of 2 not-so-productive guys. Also, you shouldn't be concerned that they blew nearly all of a 28 point lead to the 2nd worst team in the league because they only Almost blew it, they didn't blow it all.

It's on gattis more than shea. Everyone in the world could see the outside runs would work... why can't he?

Here's what I expect a lot of the U of M apologists to say:

"Well, look at what happened to Georgia!"

As though it excuses our shit ass team.

Yep

UGA lost

Michigan won by 17, could've been 24

It's a team game...

Haskins

a scholarship player

carried the ball on 4th and 2 and got stuffed

Earlier he scored his first career td

Mike Hart was an unheralded run of the mill 3 star recruit that Michigan got in on late and stole from Syracuse...one of the best RB ever at the University of MIchigan

Sometimes scouts miss the boat

I have no idea why Charbonnet and Turner aren't splitting the carries, but I'm a prison guard, not a college football coach...

Well both did fumble in the game so maybe that is why they were benched. Maybe next game we can have a Fumble free game ! Right now I have seen enough of Turner for now. Maybe he will surprise next week.. not sure why Gattis stopped attacking the edges today. Gash plays were there all game.

Illinois gives up the edge constantly. Watching our staff completely ignore that until we gave up 25 unanswered points was like chugging salt water. It was an unreal level of stupid.

So...as I said in the score prediction thread, Michigan came out and established the run. They were running for 8-10-12 yard clips and quickly went up 28-0. Then, as most college teams are wont to do, they LET UP.

They allowed Illinois to score before the half and gave them momentum going into half time. I think it's a safe bet to say that they were congratulating themselves in the locker room as if the game was already over. Illinois had different thoughts. Hope is a powerful thing and they had it. The entire third quarter they knew they had a chance to win and Michigan was coasting on their first half effort.

When the scoreboard hit 28-25, Michigan woke up. It was at this point I told my wife, "This is where good teams take over. They shut down their opponents and score several times. They should win 42-25."

And they did. This is a good team, not a great team. This is a talented team, but not mentally disciplined. They don't have a killer instinct and won't be able to just conjure it up when needed later. Fortunately, they learned that lesson without having to lose the game.
