Not that I really believe you aren't here to start an argument and not that I probably won't regret even acknowledging you
but
We don't put a lot of criticism on Harbaugh and one of the reasons is his success everywhere else and that we believe that he is probably not going anywhere and we don't want him to. The same cannot be said about some of his assistant coaches. Every fan of football thinks the quick fix is to fire this coach or that coach, but even as Dantonio showed, sometimes keeping the coach(es) is the right answer.
We need someone to blame. That is just a human knee jerk response to a situation. The assistants are easy targets.
They're easy targets because they deserve it - Harbaugh does too so far. I think it would be crazy to fire him, but it's completely fair to criticize him and say he disappointed so far. It's completely reasonable to be talking about whether coordinators need to be replaced or the staff needs to be restructured - that falls to Harbaugh. I'm not saying it's a must but it's a reasonable point to make.
I don't think Dantonio showed that keeping coaches is the right answer. I hate that we have co-coordinators and we have them on both sides. Bollman never should have been hired and Warner should have been fired years ago. Warner and Bollman are getting a lot of credit this year for "opening up the playbook" but our offense is still very conservative, predictable and boring. I think they're getting way too much credit for that. To me, it seems like a mostly mediocre B1G and Lewerke's ability to extend and make plays is being interpreted as "opening up the playbook". Barnett seems to have peaked as a position coach but it would be tough to demote him. The defense has improved - in my opinion that has more to do with the loss of Malik McDowell and a couple other bad apples than coaches whipping the team into shape. And it's not like 2013 where they can compete well even against elite teams.
