The Official MICHIGAN vs ARMY Score Prediction Thread

They cannot recruit/compete with the football factory type schools for NFL prospects. So they're not going to get a lot of the same athletes that can sling the ball all over the field. They also probably have offensive lineman who can actually run and aren't 350 lb masses of human lard. I think the numbers show the offense actually works decently well these days, because other teams aren't used to preparing/defending it. Hence why some Michigan fans are nervous about tomorrow.

Part of it may be tradition/toughness/discipline type reasons as well I'm guessing.

Lineman don't need to move the opposing DL's, just take them where they are already going. Don't need to sustain blocks very long. Backside T is usually releasing and targeting an LB or DB. With four runners to account for every play, the triple-option can get dicey to defend, if the QB makes the right read or is allowed to. #analysis

There are probably 40-50 schools that can't compete with the football factories. They don't automatically go to a triple spread style.

I just think they could make it work with a traditional spread/MAC style spread where you get your athletes flying around and find a QB. He doesn't have to be an elite passer; just a guy that can make quick leads, slants, etc...

IDK, Georgia Tech ran the 'triple option' even with WRs like Megatron and Demariyus Thomas and did OK with it .... I understand the Academies "leveling the playing field" with the unconventional approach but I think it's more that than inability to recruit players who can throw.

I read the mogblog analysis of Army-Rice, (I know, I know...) and they noted that most of Army?s running plays only go for a couple yards, and their schtick seems to be slowly moving the ball along, at 3 yards/rush.

so if they are held to no gain, or a loss on any given down, they pretty much have to punt.

they only throw a handful of passes, and their passing game is hilariously bad, relying completely on the element of surprise.

should not be hard to contain them, unless we play really stupid, and do dumb things.

I haven?t really listened to him directly myself in a while, and everything I have heard/read is filtered through sports media first, but I never got that impression; I think he?s just quieted down a lot, and turned off the blaring ?Harbaugh hype machine? he came in with.

tough to keep that going when you?re 0-4 against OSU.

he?s always said weird stuff though.

I expect Michigan to handle Army for the most part with the exception of a patented Don Brown Defensive Breakdown? That's why I gave Army 7 rather than 0.

I'm not so sure. I think it's really hard to underestimate those dudes. They have some guys that can play football. I'm just curious why it's always been that way, and often thought about how they would look playing a more conventional-style.

Also, you can find a guy in the academy that can probably wing it a bit. You just have to let him do it. Those QBs are never given a chance to try.

Michigan has a tendency of giving up an early score (even when they don't fumble on the first play from scrimmage) and I think that trend continues with Army scoring on their first or second possession against a young, inexperienced (against the triple-option) defense.

Things then take a turn for the worse for the Black Knights as the defense stiffens and the new offense meshes. Harbaugh takes his foot off the gas in veneration to the service academy.

I watched the Army-Rice game. Rice was very effective against the triple-option by getting penetration and disrupting their timing. I would hope our guys are better than Rice, but we didn't get as much push against MTSU last week as I expected. Army's O-line uses cut blocks that Rice avoided by going over them. Let's see if Don Brown tries the same tactic or prefers to stuff the holes and string them out with speed.

Our guys better be much better than Rice! Rice is terrible. They're something like 3-22 in their last 25 games, but they would have beat Army if they didn't have the worst QB in FBS. He was missing guys by almost 10 yards.

yep

You were wrong.

I was more right than your post that my prediction was a 2 TD Army win. Then you changed it. My post was that Michigan would lose 28-24 and that they would play flat. Army was on to win 27-24. Glad Michigan pulled it off, but they played flat. 🤷🏻*♂️

It?s a matter of opinion, but I don?t see how picking the loser can possibly be ?more right? than picking the winner, no matter how much closer the final score.

On second thought, it?s not a matter of opinion.

It is a completely illogical assertion.

EDIT: Strike this. I reread your post that I quoted, and I can?t figure out what you?re trying to mean.
