The Post Game Victory Miggy-Prince Congragulatory Thingee Thing

I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, but the more I watch Fielder, the less I like him. He acts like a clown. I just watched the video of his homerun today and I'm amazed he didn't catch a fastball in the ear after that. He takes a stupid hack at it and drills the homerun, stands there and watches it, tosses the bat, and points into the crowd or Twins dugout (couldn't really tell) as he trots around the bases, then does his stupid handshake with Miggy at the plate. Meanwhile, Miggy is jumping around like a fool between 1st and 2nd after it was hit too.

I've always been a fan of the Barry Sanders type. Act like a man out there, take your profession seriously, respect your opponents, and act like you've been there before.

I agree 100%. They acted like he hit a game winner in the WS or something. I don't mind if they get excited but come on...that was over the top for a game winner vs. one of the worst teams in MLB!

A stupid hack at it? A 3-run hack that put the game out of reach. A 3-run hack from a lefty coming in to FACE Prince personally. Yep...

Sit and watch it Prince...good job. And why is Miggy a fool for jumping around? He was excited. It's funny with this board. Nobody is ever happy. We lose - we need to break shit. We win - we need to be cool and calm. We can't have fun....we can have fun? It never ends...lol.

I remember how much everyone thought the Guillen stare down was the coolest thing in the world a few years ago...

But a guy celebrating a go-ahead in the bottom of the 8th? What a douche.

Wasn't even a year ago.

What's kinda weird is he's always rather quiet, talks softly, seems very unexcited and looks down alot when giving post game interviews, but you know what drives me the most nuts is watching football players celebrate first downs when their losing 34-0. .. back to prince.. I hope he gets a chance to do that against weaver this year, wouldn't that be a hoot.

Damn that bat flip verses Weaver would be classic!!!!

Glad you thought it was cool, Tony. I just didn't. I thought he looked like a clown.

I guarantee this board would have been going bonkers if that was an opposing player that did that to us. Could you imagine if Dunn drilled a go ahead homerun, flipped the bat, stared it down, pointed to the crowd, and did some stupid celebration with Konerko who also happened to be jumping up and down and turning around in the base paths? I'd bet my paycheck that you guys would be calling him classless and talking about how he deserves a fastball in the ear hole.

It goes both ways. I don't have to love everything our players do. It's okay for me to think Valverde looks like an idiot dancing around on the mound, or Prince and Miggy went overboard on this homerun. It doesn't mean that I'm not happy with the win or that I don't think tese guys are great players or that I wouldn't want them on my team. I just think having a little class and humility goes a long way.

I see your point King but maybe they just got caught in the moment of a big homer that they knew would probably win the game. Something the tigers really needed which was a win like this... I mean everyone knows Prince flips his bat when he hits bombs.. he did it in the NL.. If your that pissed about it throw one at Prince next time.. Why don't they? Because he is bigger then most pitchers . Miguel is bigger then just about anybody.. I could do away with the Valverde dance.. But the fact is most walk-offs are celebrated like the Tigers did yesterday. Even if it did come 3 outs before the game was over.. Every team celebrates when stuff like yesterday happens... But again I see what you are saying... Heck I hate it when they are smiling and yucking it up when they lose.. Hopefully that 8th inning yesterday will get them going..

That's exactly my thoughts, Bob. I'm not mad that they are celebrating, it's just how you choose to celebrate that is my thing. You want to pump your fist and give a high five at homeplate, no issues there. You wanna cartwheel around the bases, pull a marker out of your sock and sign autographs, that's another story. You start doing crap like that, you deserve to get plunked next time you are up.

Also, wasn't Prince the one who did the stupid belly flop tsunami thing at home with teammates a few years back or am I mixing him up with somebody else?

LOL...Yeah I think you are right.. Maybe prince like to get into other teams heads.. He seems to like to yuck it up when they win or lose... Maybe he is to happy go lucky.. But hopefully they can back it up and get to first place... I would much prefer them to celebrate as they are leading the division by 7 games not trialing by 4.5....Prince should expect the Twins to pitch inside the next time they face them.. I agree with you he may get plunked...

There's a fine line between overdoing and the Barry Sanders' "act like you've been there before" professionalism, or the old school players of Mantle, Kaline, Aaron, etc.
Thing is, it's a different type of game now, most all of them do it. Take a time machine back 20 to 30 years and further, with this type of celebrating a player or more than one gets beaned.

For me, I like some of it, and some celebrating I don't, and that's just with the Tigers players. But I accept it, even though old school, I have to accept and embrace change, and that's not just in baseball.

FWIW, any of you guys remember a couple of years back when luke scott hit a homerun, maybe it was a grandslam, and slid into home plate? That Game thread, iirc, many of us did not like it done to our Tigers or to us as Tigers fans watching it.
another is elephant ears jose bautista, he seems to do some kind of a bat flip after homeruns, like big papi, and same as the phony torri hunter. So I guess what I'm saying is every team has a player or two that go as we say over the top.

I'd buzz every last one of them if I were on the mound too, but that's just how I was brought up to play the game.

You are 100% correct about the way it is now though. The poster dunks, T.O., OchoStinko, Cruz TDs celebrations, etc. that got all the ESPN hype were what made it cool to do in other sports like baseball.

Yeah, me too probably, and take the fine and 5 games off,

and that is the key or big reason, they show all that on espn, and mlbnetwork, and the players all want to be on later in the night when they show their homerun bat flip, or nice fielding play, so they do their little thingee, dance, crazy jump and bump, high low fives, used to be just national enquirer and star, now the tv media does it, sensationalism.
So the media makes it and says it's here to stay.
ahh, oh well, some is entertaining, some, I say the guys a putz, and that's almost always a player on another team other than Detroit teams.

Here's something from platoon advantage and Fielder's 1.5 seconds of admiring the homerun.

The writer apparently missed a few things there. The way he told it Prince flipped the bat, watched for a second, pointed to his dugout, then headed around the bases and only had a high five somewhere in between.

First, the dugout that was pointed toward was the Twins', not the Tigers'. It was on the 1st base side of the field, not the third base side. Second, Miggy was jumping up and down like a girl and actually started back toward first like he was going to meet Prince there before turning around and heading home. Third, the dumb handshake thing between Prince and Miggy.

Whatever, it is what it is, it's just funny how he can write an article about something not being a big deal when the opposing fan's immediate reaction was to say he should get drilled next time up. If it wasn't an issue, why even bother addressing it?

I do think there should be more leeway with how you celebrate at home as compared to the road. If you are the home team, I expect you to be able to do it up a little more in front of your fans (if you choose to do that). If you're on the road, then your celebration will most likely be quiet and quick.
