The suh situation

People in the media are portraying this as reggie white part 2. Does anyone else agree with that? The way I feel about suh is he is a very good player, who is durable and hard working. He has some freak qualities but rarely dominates a game like reggie white. A better comparison of white is jj watt. It's not even a given that suh is the #1 at his position just about every year. But you can't argue that he isn't in the top 3. So no, I don't think ndamukong is a once in a generation player. I compare his loss to Julius peppers, or mario Williams. He isn't going to break our team. So, overrated? Or am I just not seeing him like everyone else?

He is a very good player and top 5 at his position. He is the best defensive player on the Lions so his loss will be felt on this team. Comparing him to Reggie White is stupid. He probably more similar to Warren Sapp...not as good as Sapp but he is a better comparison.

JJ Watt is likely a first ballot hall of famer and up there with Reggie White himself. Suh is the best defensive player the Lions have had since TVs were in black and white and always shows up in big spots - rewatch the Dallas game. We had the number 1 defense last year and I think we had about 3 PFF plus rated players. I guess you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

No one's a HOF after 4 seasons.

As far as Suh, no way he can be compared to the Minister of Defense. No freaking way..I think it will hurt in the short term but could help in the long term.

Slay, mathis, dig, Quin, levy, whitehead, anash, fairley, Mosley, George Johnson were positive Pff. Some very high.

It wasn't just suh. See 2012 defense as a great example

Post their season +/-

When you consider the number of times we see a top player at his position, and arguably the best defensive player in the league become a free agent IN his prime.. yes, I would compare this to the Reggie White free agency.

Now, on that note, I don't consider Suh the top defensive player in the league. I think J.J. Watt takes that honor. But many many members of the media and people within the NFL disagree with me... so it's arguable.

I can't think of the last time a player of Suh's caliber became a free agent in his prime. Julius Peppers was on the downhill when he signed with Chicago. Revis was coming off injury when the Jets let him go.

I remember a few years ago when Haynesworth landed his $100MM contract (or close to it) with Washington. He was not even remotely the best at his position. A reporter asked Lawrence Taylor about the price of today's contracts and what he thought he would make as a free agent in his prime today.

He said "I don't even want to speculate, but I know for sure I'd have been playing football in Lawrence Taylor and the New York Giants Stadium".

Suh is that type of player. Not L.T. or White's caliber, but who is? But he is the type of guy who may find himself playing in Ndamakong Suh and Sun Life Stadium next season.

Nope. Definitely not up for best defensive player in the league. Not even close. He's not even the for sure at his own position. That's my point. Has he even led DT in sacks for a year yet? Maybe his rookie year? He's no Sherman, he's no watt. Next tier of player so it's still not bad. But he's going to be paid like he's one of those.

I would strongly disagree with him not being the #1 DT in the league. In my mind, he is far and away the best DT... not even close.

I would put his value above that of Sherman as well, because no matter how much the game changes, football is still won and lost in the trenches. Look at all the early injuries in Detroit's secondary last season. A great D-line that pressures the QB can still make a bunch of bums look acceptable, but a stud CB can't cover if the QB has all day to throw. Sooner or later, the QB will find an open man and beat him.

I say Watt is the ONLY defensive player right now better than Suh. And that's why so many teams are willing to break the bank for the man. Watt never tasted free agency, and won't until his career is on the down. Suh is an elite player in his prime.

May be true. However the two teams with the best group of DBs met in the super bowl last year.

Wow our front office reeks! We could have kept Fairley on his rookie deal one more season, and now we are looking to hard sell sign him long term while at the same time being worried he's going to be his lazy, injured liability self? We just removed any leverage we had willingly and now are trying to save face after Suh leaves. They sure Ebroned this one.

I get a little bothered when people only start with the DTs and say they directly influence the linebackers and safeties. Great LBs and safeties can also make DTs better than they are. It's a reciprocal relationship, not just point A to B.

Suh's great. But without him, I still think these defense is darn good. It's not going to suddenly collapse.

Agree wholeheartedly. Was suh not here for all those bad and mediocre defensive years? Suddenly we get a new d coordinator and it's all suh who made our defense elite. Yea suh had his best season, but so did levy, so did Quinn, so did slay. Ect.

Of that list which one was an all pro?

Levy was 4 votes out and glover was an all pro. He was number one in votes for a 4-3 outside linebacker. Not to mention it was a joke eric weddle made it over glover on the first team.

Edit:levy made the team at inside linebacker. So the answer to your question, all three.

Seriously don't compare Suh to Levy or Quinn. You'll look dumb.

4X first team All Pro - by all measures, AP, SN, PFWA
1 second team All Pro - Levy, Quinn welcome to the party
Defensive Lineman of the Year
Rookie of the Year

2nd team ALL Pro? They don't count. So Levy wasn't an All Pro. Whether he should have been or not is irrelevant. Nor Quinn, why not add the 3rd and 4th team All Pro's?

I sure hope plan B works out...Fairley, Knighton, LG and CB would calm my fears
