but I'm not sure if it's gotten its own thread yet. I'm in the mood for sharing irresponsible speculation and gut logic.

I don't attend practices and I'm not an insider. I've been thinking about what Hoke said when he got the job though (what's best for the player and best for the team usually being the same thing), as well as the recent increase in Devin's playing time.

Am I the only one that is convinced that #7 will be the starting QB for the Ohio* game?

Hopefully we get up big on purdue and devin gets some real playing time, not sub in for one play then out again. And see what he's got.

But as for devin becoming the starter. hoke said that denard is the starter, he just feels devin is better to run some plays.

So either he's lying and slowly making devin the starter, or denard is the starter.

I'm a fan of denard as a person, as a player, just not as a passer.

Gardner looked really shaky to me.. I mean he threw a ball 3 yards past the line of scrimmage. He had plenty of brain cramps that lead me to believe he may not be all the smart of a QB. But who knows if our coaches do not adjust to blitzes in game DR is going to get really hurt..

if that does happen, I hope Urban Meyer and Chris Speilman aren't calling the game. I would definitely have to mute it rather than listen to them spew the same garbage they spewed last Saturday every time DG came into the game.

I'm not sure why this keeps coming up. What is everyone seeing when Devin is in the game that makes them think he's so much of an improvement over Denard? If you ask me - he looks just as shaky passing the ball as Denard does.

He has much better touch on the ball, for what ever reason I feel more confident with him behind center......Sometimes

I think that Devin has a higher ceiling, and therefore should be a better QB at the end of his career. Don't get me wrong, I love Drob, and if the coaches say he is the QB, thats the way it is. Just from watching the two play, Devin seems to have better mechanics and he fits better in a man ball type of game.

I know stars don't matter but wasn't Devin a 5 star QB recruit and Denard was a 4 star athlete recruit. Several big schools whited Devin as a QB, and most schools wanted Denard as a CB or RB or Slot. I believe this to be correct, but Ive been wrong before

And to think that I remember the days when people speculated that Stacy Johnson should start ahead of Rick Leach.

I like the Devin packages, with Denard on the field, but Denard is the clear starter.

And where are you seeing this? because from in game experience he looks similar, if not worse, than Denard at running the offense. So saying "he has better touch" is really not backed up by any in-game experience. The few deep balls he's thrown have been just as off as if Denard was throwing them.

Denard is the better QB right now and probably will be all the way through his senior season.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Devin is a better passer than Drob. IMO....Its not even close. Drob runs the O better. I wouldn't be surprised to see Drob in a Joshua Cribbs position next year for the UM offense.

To be clear, I'm not saying that Devin should be the starter or that the offense would be more efficient with him in. I generally don't feel more confident with one or the other in the game unless it's 3rd and 7plus.

I'm just noticing a trend; Hoke has been using him more. This could be due in part to the minor injuries Denard has incurred in the last two games, but I get the sense that it is more.

BTW, thanks Diggler.

Oh god that was awful, particularly Urban.

Yeah. As the throw goes to the double-covered wide receiver, the ball flies so much smoother than Denard's does when his goes to the wrong receivers...meanwhile, they both don't throw to the guy that is wide open...

I guess you weren't watching on saturday. That wasn't manball. That was "force the QB to throw into 50 mph winds no matter what" ball

People see a guy that is 6' 4" 215 and just assume that he's the better QB. I'm 6'4" and 220 and my passes fly better than Denard's sometimes. I guess i'd make a better QB than Dnard...

Like Hoke says, he sees these guys in practice everyday. His starting QB is Denard. Does it really matter anymore what they did in highschool?

If you're going to keep throwing the ball deep then get denard out of there. I seriously think he couldn't complete a deep pass even if there was no coverage. Have short plays like slants and curls.

And if a runningback would step up, we wouldn't need denard to pass much. There's been plenty of teams who have had success just running the ball. So its not all on denard

I don't think so. Say what you want about mechanics, and accuracy, and bla bla bla, but I think we still have a better chance to win with Denard behind center than Devin. Hoke is going to stick with Denard this season, and so far, I think he should.

Now as far as next season goes, I think it's more likely we see Gardner takeover, and Denard moving to slot and maybe handling returns.

Sure you're entitled to your opinion but you're stating it as fact when in reality it's based on nothing more than his recruiting profile. So far in games Gardner has looked anything but impressive.

After one loss? Denard has been a Heisman candidate for 2 years and people are talking about replacing him after 1 loss? And it would be one thing if you had a guy throwing darts behind him, but Devin Gardner has barely looked like he has a better arm than Denard and he provides nowhere near the threat that Denard is. Unless he gets injured Robinson should be the QB the rest of the year. Next year, who knows, if Gardner makes some strides maybe he gets half the snaps next year, but they may have a younger guy who more fits their system by next year that might need some seasoning to be ready for 2013.
