4.9 WAR JV
2.7 WAR JW

170 ERA+ JV
167 ERA+ JW

That's it for now.

Am I missing something here? Between the title and what you posted it appears to be two different arguments.

Why JV is better? Much better WAR and Better ERA+. Not sure I understand what you mean.

I guess I didn't get the memo on the new stats, what the hell is ERA+ then?

100x{league ERA/ERA}
And adjusted to the players park. Higher is better.

To compare: Pedro in 2000 had a 295 ERA+ ;-)

No doubt. Those extra 30+ innings and more by season's end are huge.

This year, he's already almost 30 more IP. Verlander not only doesn't miss as many starts he averages a full extra inning per start, that's huge. You think Weaver's ERA is as good if he was going 1 inning longer each start? It's a close race, but JV is ahead of Weaver right now.

It's surprising to me how little you hear Pedro's name mentioned as an elite pitcher. The guy was a complete stud for years in some of the biggest markets and it seems like people barely even give a second thought to him. You always hear about Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Clemens, Ryan, etc. but people largely forget all about Pedro.

Don Zimmer underrated Pedro too...look what happened. I won't make that mistake.

I agree. Probably has to go with his rough attitude like going inside whenever he wanted to and tossing that NYY coach to the ground.

He didn't have the durability of the others, but in terms of peak, Pedro is pretty much always mentioned as having the greatest, him or Koufax (who really didn't).

I'll just throw my favorite one out there for good measure

Verlander - 3.31 xFIP
Weaver - 3.95 xFIP

Lol, yes he did. That has to be one of the funniest videos I have ever seen. I love that Don charged him. Pedro did about the only thing he could when an 75, or whatever, year old guy charges you.

And yeah, I don't know why more people don't talk about him. He has some of the most ridiculous seasons in a home run hitting era.

I never liked pedro, because he would throw at players and get away with it, never having to bat, some of the blame I give to captain snatchface jason varitek/vagitek. pedro hit both Jeter and another yankee player, name I forget, successive at bats and both left the game,
As for Zimmer going after him, f'n pedro was all of what 30/31 at the time and Zim was an old bastard in his 70's, older than me, all pedro had to do was side step him instead of grabbing and throwing him to the ground, even big papi couldn't believe he did that.
One game in particular against the rays there was an at bat with gerald 'Ice' williams, pedro drilled him and williams looked at his hands then at pedro and sprinted out charged him and decked him, I loved it.
Now pedro was a damn good pitcher, and all the saber and regular numbers prove it, over 3000 k's his 2 'outstanding seasons' in an excellent career, but the people that vote are the ones that also still look at wins....same with schilling low 200's. Plus, iirc both were linked to hgh. They probably/eventually get in.
Personally, I hope they don't, get in, but that's just my opinion on all of it.

I don't mind pitchers throwing at hitters. If they allow the hitters to crowd the plate as they see fit, then pitching inside should not be a problem. IMO.

Haha, I guess if I lived near Boston I would hate Pedro as much as KC :D

I can't fault Pedro for throwing Zim to the ground. If you charge somebody during a brawl, you have to expect to be treated like everybody else.

And I don't really remember watching Pedro pitch too much, so I can't comment on his dickness/hitting batters.

That's a big part of it James,

I guess many will agree with that, even an old fart like Zim if he trys to throw a punch then he's fair game, the thing is, at his age he is slow motion compared to pedro or any of the players.
