Would be incredibly dumb to base the decision of whether or not to sign him based on how he does for a two month period.

Well if the guys pitching with a 5+ era and can't get anyone out, it's hard to justify giving him a a good sum of money if another team is willing to give it to him. Never know how desperate a "little guy" might be to give someone with a decent track record a big deal even though he's sucked for 2 months.
