Tigers and MLB 2018 offseason

I swear this team is dysfunctional. A LOOGY who walks a ton and a light hitting, high strikeout 1B, wait 2B or is it 3B, who only projects to being a bench player at best?

I would expect neither to be on the 40-man roster come Spring. If they are, then it is time to question our analytical department even more.

do they have to be on the 40 man in order to keep them?

No. They could clear waivers. Which was the process they were going through when DET claimed them. If they clear waivers, they technically become free agents and can sign with anyone. Minor league free agents with the same skills are a dime a dozen.

thanks

I just didn't want these two turds on the 40 man.

dysfunctional, _ _ _ _ heads, miss manage, wow how many more words can describe this team. There might be a need for a new thread.

First Dave Littlefield interviewed for the Mets GM job.
Now, David Chadd is a candidate for the Orioles' GM.
Do they see opportunities or do they see the end of the road in Detroit?

This is also in the Team notes and Minors team notes.
Just too good a bit of good news not to put here for those who don't read the notes threads.

Astros Made Trade Offer For Castellanos In July.
The Astros made an offer to the Tigers about right fielder Nick Castellanos prior to last July?s trade deadline. Houston was known to be aggressively pursuing a big outfield bat last summer, even to the point of almost completing a trade with the Nationals for Bryce Harper, and also inquiring about Tommy Pham (then with the Cardinals) and White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia.
Castellanos could again be a target for the Astros this offseason, because it is becoming increasingly likely that the Tigers will trade Castellanos due to a lack of extension talks between the two sides.

Castellanos would help the Astros as either a corner outfielder or, perhaps more likely, as a DH given Castellanos? defensive limitations and the fact that incumbent Houston designated hitter Evan Gattis is hitting free agency.
Since Castellanos is only controlled through the 2019 season, he would give the Astros a short-term boost in their quest for another World Series while also not serving as a long-term block to youngsters Tyler White, Kyle Tucker, and J.D. Davis.
