Tigers @ Astros 8-14-15 Game #115

Only Miggy knows how he feels.but he's never had a injury like this before. I'd just play it safe on a commodity like him and give him another week or so,just to be safe.

And if he came back next week you might be saying the same thing, needs another week. As far as we know he could have played last week and they gave him another week..

If Miggy goes 0 for 12 or 3 for 15 into next week, don't have a panic attack....
He has to get his timing back vs. live pitching.

Miggy has an outside chance to get to the magical 502 PA required to win batting title. I want to see him playing just for that..

I don't know if this is going to apply to Miggy this season or not, but a player can with the batting title with less than 502 at bats - Tony Gwynn did it in 94 and '96.

If the player were to go ofer every at bat between his actual number up to 502 and still have the best average in the league, the player wins the title.

At least that was the rule going back to when Gwynn did it - during a Dodger radio broadcast one of the announcers explained it; I think it was Rick Monday.

It's still the case. I read about it a couple weeks back.

Hey look,Miquel Cabrera is my idol.I want nothing more than to see him play. But we ain't playing for anything, and I can't see bringing him back too soon. only time will tell if he was right for playing.

Sure us fans think there is nothing left to play for, but I'm sure the players look at it like we are only 5 games out with 1.5 months left to play. Let's go for it. Pros are just wired to see it that way.

I believe it's based on plate appearances not at bats, currently miggy has somewhere around 335 plate appearances with 47 games to go?

502/162 rounded up is 3.10 per game...if miggy averages 4 plate appearances per game over the remaining 47 he'll end up with around 522 or so..

This was just a quick rough estimate I may be off by a few in one direction or another

Odds are he won't play in all remaining 47 so yes it will likely be close

That is correct.

Yes. I think it works like this, for example, if he gets to 495 .. he gets an 0-7 added on. And if he's still ahead..

Edit: I guess I should have read your whole post ;-)
