Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you back in actual offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s topic:
New President of Baseball Operations, Scott Harris, said that significant changes will be made to the team in the months following the conclusion of the 2022 season. That is expected to mean both personnel and the roster.

Owner Chris Ilitch invested over $243 mill on free agents alone for this team to regress significantly. It is one of the primary reasons why he fired GM Al Avila.

Harris is expected to shake up the roster and try to undo some of Avila?s questionable signings.

Unfortunately, he will have fewer resources available to effect change. Ilitch may be hesitant to spend large sums until he gets to know his PoBO better.
Top prospects in the minors are still at least a year away from reaching Detroit and the current positional players would bring back very little in return.

Significant injuries to pitchers, especially starting ones, will also hamper the trading process.

Harris said that the team will have to take some ?calculated risks? as they try to move forward. Keeping the roster the same as this year will not be an option.

In order to receive MLB-ready players, the Tigers will need to consider trading some of their top young talent. It is believed that Riley Greene will not be available for trade.

Should the Tigers make available some of their young top prospects in order to get multiple MLB-ready back that would visibly improve their roster and performance next year? Some of the same players the Tigers received for tanking in previous years?

Or should the Tigers plan on keeping these prospects/young proven talent and use next year as a transitional one in which improvement and roster turnover is much more modest?

What should the Tigers do about improving their roster?

1. Trade top prospects for MLB-ready players in order to significantly improve the roster.

2. Keep top prospects and aim for a transitional year with modest improvement.

KNOWING WHEN TO LET GO.

?The one thing I can say and quite honestly I hope Scott Harris is listening right now ? I will go on the record and say I think that this team has over-evaluated their players for quite some time. They put more hope and trust and faith in their players then I think was legit. That?s just my opinion. It?s a tough thing to get rid of guys that you have a vested interest in, a relationship in, you know they?re good people. That?s the hardest thing about this business is cutting the cord and saying goodbye to those kind of people. But if you want to win, you gotta to be tough. Mentally and physically.?

These thoughts were uttered Tuesday night during the double-header. And it was by far the best thing to come out of those games. Maybe the entire season.

Finally, some honesty is coming out about just how deep and long this stink has gone on despite the constant attempts by the major local beat writers to cover for the organization?s ineptitude by praising almost every single player signed by Detroit.

So who said it?

Jack Morris.

The new boss has a difficult job ahead. As TT has said over and over again, "player development is the biggest problem". If the players aren't being developed, are they really bad or do they still have potential? If the new boss gets rid of a bunch of players that weren't developed properly, those moves will probably come back to bite him in the ass. If I were running things, I would be slow to make any significant moves. I would get my people in, and over the next year see what the organization really has.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.

Scott Harris officially took over yesterday after several weeks of greeting and meeting as many within the organization as he could. Yesterday, he presumably got to work making some decisions and coordinating with other departments on various projects.

Undoubtedly, Harris has one of MLB?s longest to-do lists. He will be touching every department within the organization. With some, he?ll go more in-depth. With others, he may only have time for a quick dive.

When an organization is being restructured, it?s not all going to happen in one year. Harris will focus on the areas needing the most attention while systematically digging through layers over time with other departments.

All we know right now is that he said there will be significant changes. Both he and Manager A. J. Hinch have diplomatically stated several times that no one?s job is safe. You can also probably include Paws in that statement.

Of course, Scott will have his laundry list of priorities. And there are undoubtedly many.

But which are the most important?

Which ones should he tackle first?

Which ones, if addressed first, will positively influence and create changes in the other areas needing attention?

What do you think?

Today, I?ve put together a list of 5 hot-button areas needing attention. By all means, this is not a complete list but a substantial one. And I guarantee that every one of you will find the issue you feel is most pressing.

Your assignment?

Tell us which one ( to paraphrase Sean Connery?s infamous line ?1 point only.?) of these 5 is the most important one to prioritize and why.

Drafting system
Front Office personnel
Medical/training/conditioning
Player development
Roster revamp
Next week, I?ll report on the results.

In terms of most important, I think it has to be player development.

In terms of "timeline"

1 Front Office personnel
2 Roster revamp
3 Player development
4 Medical/training/conditioning
5 Drafting system

Quality control coach Josh Paul will not return, while assistant hitting coach Mike Hessman and third base coach Ramon Santiago have been reassigned and offered jobs in the minor leagues. Alfredo Amezaga has been tabbed as the first base coach next season.

As expected, the Detroit Tigers started making some changes. They removed hitting coaches Scott Coolbaugh and Mike Hessman. Mike will be reassigned to player development.

Until Hinch came along, the Tigers Front Office made the majority of coach hirings. Today's release of some coaches obviously involved Hinch but he almost certainly coordinated to some extent with new PoBO Scott Harris.

Gary Jones will stay in a different position TBD. Alfredo Amezaga, 1B coach in Toledo, got an audition in Detroit and stays. So does hitting coach Adam Melhuse who will interview for the same position.

This year the Tigers had 11 coaches on staff, and 2 were late additions.
The San Francisco Giants had 17 coaches, including a Hitting Coach, an Assistant Hitting Coach, a Director of Hitting, and three unspecified assistant coaches.

The Detroit Tigers have hired a new man for a new position ? Scott Harris as the President of Baseball Operations.

Harris has zero ties to the Tigers unlike all of the former and current Front Office executives. He has said that there will be significant changes made within the organization.

After spending several weeks, meeting everyone and gathering information, he is expected to start transforming the Tigers organization.

How excited are you about the forthcoming changes and what may happen during the off-season?

How excited are you about Scott Harris' promise to make significant changes during the off-season?

1. Thrilled

2. Feeling positive

3. Not sure

4. Not excited

There's a New Sheriff in the Motor City and His Name is Scott Harris.

It's House Cleaning Time after so many years of the good old boys network of incompetency.

The Detroit Tigers fire the Director of Amateur of Scouting Scott Pleis.
The Tigers continue to clean house as news was released via Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press that Detroit has parted ways with Scott Pleis.
