Tigers in a 3 way deal with redsox + whitesox

So I'm guessing Avi will be in the lineup against us Friday, SAT and or SUN.

yeah I hope that doesn't bite us.

The one stat that always depressed me with mini Miggy is his GB to FB ratio. For someone supposedly with power, he sure hits it on the ground an awful lot. GB ratio is like 65% or something stupid..

And for the one worried about away stats, 2013 his away numbers are better than his home numbers.

yeah I always felt he hacked at too many balls up here all the time, wasn't selective enough yet in the minors he tears it up time and time again, if he ever becomes more selective at the big league level he could be really good for years to come. The white soxs are a team full of free swingers also though so he may not sort it out there either.

He's not a big HR hitter in the minors so I suspect he has a high GB ratio there as well.

Also something to note on this trade is the fact that we HAVE to start saving money in other area's to be able to afford some of the contract we have on this team right now. Not to mention the looming extensions/free agents like Scherzer, Jackson, Fister and Porcello.

Having a CHEAP option all be it a defensive ace as SS whether we love his bat or not will only help us in REMAINING a contender beyond this season. Same with Nick Castellanos and possibly Hernan Perez playing significant roles on this team next season so that we can AFFORD the type of contracts we are about to shell out for our core of all star type players.

Exactly. We can't be the Yankees, just going out and buying players to get to the post-season. At some point we need to have young, cheap guys who either developed in our system (Castellanos, Avila despite his bat this year, Perez maybe, etc) or guys we trade for (AJax, Iglesias, Fister, Smyly, Rondon, etc).

Expect to see Scherzer traded in the offseason to restock the system and get some good, young players, then having Smyly step back into the rotation. Maybe even Porcello too/instead. Thats how you stay contenders.

Honestly though you trade a Porcello type player to restock a few decent looking prospects. You don't trade away this years CY Young winner (more than likely anyways) unless your getting back some MLB ready type higher end young players.

Someone that comes to mind would be a Craig Kimbrel type player that could step in and fill an immediate need next season. That's the type of player/s you target IF we HAVE to trade someone like Scherzer this offseason.

The main reason i favor trading Scherzer even if he wins the Cy Young is because he's a free agent after next year and theres no way we're resigning him for the money he's gonna want. Might as well use him to get a huge haul from someone, our rotation is deep enough that we could afford to lose him after this year.

They could sign him to a long term deal next year while he's arb eligible that doesn't break the bank.

In any event I'd eventually love a team with P and D and the payroll of a TB Rays. That would be idea but DD would have to draft better for that to happen.

I highly doubt it. His agent is that asshole Boras, he's going to test the FA waters unless he switches agents.

I'd actually like to trade Scherzer rather then resign him. We could use the haul he would net us badly, and as much as I like Max, he's not all that far removed from the brown-eye days 1 pitcher on a team making over say, $18M is enough.

How do we know this year isn't Scherzer's career best or a fluke? It isn't like he has another season close to this year. And we are willing to sign him to a long term contract and pay him big money because of it?

Trade him while his value is at it's peak. There is no way is value increases anymore.

I think that it is more likely that Scherzer would get traded in the off-season, is IF the Tigers were to win the World Series.

If they don't or lose during the ALDS or CS, then trading Scherzer might hurt their chances of winning it all in '14. That would of course also depend upon who/what the ballclub received in return. Their window of opportunity is likely through '14 or maybe also '15. Mr. I is not getting any younger, either.

Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera tells traded Avisail Garcia: 'Keep it up

Miguel Cabrera is going to miss his Avisail Garcia.
Cabrera took Garcia under his wing over the past two seasons. Garcia was often referred to as "mini-Miggy."
Garcia, 22, was the key component for the Chicago White Sox in their three-way deal with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. The White Sox sent pitcher Jake Peavy to the Red Sox and received minor league pitchers J.B. Wendelken and Francelis Montas and infielder Cleuluis Rondon back.

Cabrera said he spoke to Garcia after the trade was announced on Tuesday.
"Nobody has to worry about trades because at some point it's going to happen," Cabrera said today. "That's baseball. You never know when you're going to get traded. I tell him, 'Keep it up. Do your thing over there and when you play us, don't go 0-for-4.' "
Cabrera said Garcia was "kind of sad because he wanted to stay here."
Cabrera told him that the White Sox wanted him in the trade and to go there and play his best.
"I think what you did is you traded a big arm with some inconsistency and you traded a prime-time outfielder for a prime-time infielder. That's what it looks like to me, potentially," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
The Tigers have always felt that Garcia would be a prime-time outfielder. He has been considered one of their top prospects for several years.
The White Sox sent Garcia to Triple-A Charlotte. The Tigers host the White Sox in a three-game series starting Friday.
Garcia
.241 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 30 regular-season games this season for the Tigers. He was hitting .374 .with six home runs and 27 RBIs in 33 games at Triple-A Toledo.
Asked about now having to face him several times during the regular season, Leyland said: "I don't look at it like that. This is competition. I'm thrilled for that kid. He's a great kid. I think he's got huge upside. You've heard me say that all along. About four years ago, I said he was the best prospect in the organization that I saw. I'm so happy for him. God bless him."

I had to mute that, what the ..?

Wow, and it wasn't even that close of a play. He made a couple of real nice plays when we played the Redsox, guy is a phenom at SS.

If he can be a career .250 hitter, this will go down as one of the best moves DD has made. Going forward we have solid defense up the middle with our catchers, Iglesius, Infante, and Jackson.

I don't think people appreciate how much of a wizard this guy is at shortstop. He's hands down the best defensive prospect in baseball and will probably win a minimum of a half a dozen GGs if he can hit well enough to play everyday.
