Tigers in a 3 way deal with redsox + whitesox

I'm OK with a hole in the lineup for some great defense....as long as it isn't a guy that hits .200 with a .550 OPS.

Iglesius is a flawed player at the plate for sure, but Garcia was never going to be an everyday player in the Majors IMO. I've said it before, I just don't see how he became such a highly though of prospect in the 1st place, seems like he came out of nowhere to play some last year and was the product of a hype job by our organization. Garcia displayed no power and basically hit seeing eye singles. He is still learning the play the outfield. What he had going for him was some speed, and he looked the part, the Mini Miggy talk might have moved him up several places in our farm system prospect rankings. Seems like a good kid, but I just don't see a top prospect.

Yeah and I think good teams will hype their guys, especially when they are part of a system that uses them in trades.
Garcia was hyped, Iglesias was hyped and when he was batting way over .400 earlier, you just knew as it is a game of adjustments, that the pitchers would adjust, and now he has to, to improve on his rough July. One thing with this kid, good or bad with the bat, the glove and arm D is always there.

That's what scares me....that and Boston's willingness to trade "the best defensive shortstop since Ozzie Smith"

Because they have Boggarts ready to go at SS and Middlebrooks at 3rd maybe next year or in September.

Middlebrooks, I don't think is considered a prospect anymore.
and really isn't the redsox solution at third, from what I have read, seen, and spoken about with my redsox fan friends.
Bogaerts and maybe cecchini are the plan for ss and future 3b.

Yeah, I guess Cecchini makes more sense. I do know that the Red Sox really wanted the Tigers to take Middlebrooks instead, but he's no use for us thank God

Who doesn't love this deal? We get a Gold Glove caliber infielder for peanuts. Garcia is/was all hype. Let him toil in the Sox minor leagues for a years

only thing i don't like is that we already have a catcher and a substitute 2B that are hitting under .200. Losing Peralta is going to really hurt. At least Vmart seems to be hitting a bit better as of late.

If Infante was back, I wouldn't feel bad about this at all. But, Iglesias is hitting like .330 right now, right? Is it too much to hope for him to stay above .250?

In any case, this is a long term win. Defensive stud.

So in essence. IGGY is a somewhat better defensive version of INGE. but mainly @ SS and unlike Brandon, Jose can't hit any homers on occasion. He has little if any speed, plate discipline, or power. and won't remind anyone of Carlos Guillen, much less Peralta @ the plate. All of the members here who are gleefully hyping his potentially HOFish defense, better not complain in game threads when he inevitably kills two-out rallies, or has multiple 0-for games in succession.

That won't happen. There are threads dedicated to how bad the offense is right now while the Tigers have the #1 offense in MLB.

Perralta on suspension:

"It's going to be disappointing but there's nothing that I can do," Peralta said. "I try to do the best I can do and try to help everybody here."

Sounds like a done deal, any chance he gets less than 50 games?

I wonder if he does get 50 will the Tigers bother putting him on the post season roster or just wash their hands of him and move on.

No chance that Jhonny gets less than 50, which if I were him would serve ASAP, as to lessen the blow to/on his probable FA next off-season. That posted, the Tigers would likely need his bat in the postseason, if they should clinch. A PH role off the bench would be worthwhile at the least, and perhaps also @ DH if Prince Fielder (.183/.277/.365 w/a .643 OPS postseason) slumps yet again in the ALDS/CS/WS and VMart plays 1B instead during any crucial games/innings

Iglesias would/should have accumulated enough PAs by then for the Tigers to knowi f they would need Jhonny to play @ SS vs certain pitchers, esp. if the Tigers bats are as cold as the temps may be by then, here in the D.

Just to chime in here, Iglesias, IMO is a poor man's Simmons. All glove no bat SS. He might wind up with a similar career to Adam Everett. Worst case scenario, he becomes a defensive specialist bench player.

Given all that, I think that's fine when all they really gave up was Garcia. Garcia is extremely raw and doesn't bring that kind of defensive value in addition to playing a position where quality offense is the norm.

I wanted to like Garcia but looking at his career numbers makes me like this trade. Only 2 HR in 130 MLB at bats is a little dissapointing. Career OPS of .663 only 6 career extra base hits and 13 career RBI. With Iggy they are getting much better defensively. When Johnny is suspended we obviously will never see him again. Hopefully Iggy can keep his bat going.

He hit about .200 in the month of July. He is closer to a .200 hitter than a .330 hitter.

Here is my take on it for now. I am happy that they got a good defensive player and a player that can take JP's place if he is suspended. I HOPE that he is Ramon Santiago's replacement for 2014-? unless his bat is worthy of being an every day player.

Then who do you get at SS during FA in 2014? SS are hard as fuck to get..

So I'm guessing Avi will be in the lineup against us Friday, SAT and or SUN.

yeah I hope that doesn't bite us.
