latest news is the Tigers got bad news on Victor Martinez probably not being able to make it back this year and are looking for a middle of the order bat....Knobler and Morosi have tweeted in the last hour that the team has inquired about Soriano from the Cubs....He has provided the Cubs with a list of teams he is willing to go to , it will be intersting to see if the Tigers pull the triggerr by 4pm

That would be great if they can ship DY to them in the deal and if the Cubs take on some of his salary.

10:57am: The Tigers have considered Alfonso Soriano, but don't think he's a great fit, Knobler reports (on Twitter). They asked about Scott Hairston, but the Mets wanted one of the Tigers' top five prospects in return.

10:24am: The Tigers are seeking a middle-of-the-order hitter in the wake of discouraging news on Victor Martinez's recovery from knee surgery, writes Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. Martinez is said to be 50-50 to return this year, so the Tigers are "looking hard" for another bat.

im glad they dont think he's a good fit, cuz i heartily agree.

After posting in the other thread and now thinking about him more, Soriano might be better suited as a DH with his knees, but Victor will come back next year.
We need corner outfielder that are more than one dimensional, got to have a couple that can hit And Field.

only if the Cubs eat most of his salary for the remainder of his contract, he's not worth it at $18 million a year, even over young and boesch.

We should be looking at Lyle Overbay who was just designated by the D'backs. He'd be a perfect DH for the rest of the year.

Eh, the last thing we need is more MLB rejects on this team, Young, Boesch, Raburn,...all should off MLB rosters, let's not add to the manure pile.

Soriano for Delmon Young + prospect? Sure. As long as they pay for 75% of this contract

I'll still take Boesch...had a rough start but seems to be picking it up. Not a good fielder but it is what it is. He's not Delmon out there. As long as Boesch hits he can stay.

.292/.367/.448/.815 in 110 games this year. Career he's .271/.354/.439/.794.

Huff actually had a nervous disorder from what I heard the other day. That's why he choked after the trade.

110 PLATE APPEARANCES....not games.

He has hit about .240 since 2008 with little power. Might as well put Don Kelley as the DH.

Again......no thanx!

Boesch would have to start hitting to keep hitting.

I'm not sure why everyone wants to trade Berry, Boesch and Young for a 37 year old outfielder hitting in the .270's with bad knees.

Berry, and Boesch are cheap..Boesch has started hitting again, Berry bring defense, speed and an ok bat to the line up. Young obviously could kick rocks... Is Soriano going to put this team over the top? I think I'll stick with Boesch n Berry before I give them away for Soriano.

Hell Soriano might be 50, he is from the DR afterall. Lol

In the last 22 games (july)

Boesch .299 avg / OPS .870 / OBP .325 / K 16 / BB 3

Soriano .274 avg / OPS .835 /OBP .299 / K 24 / BB 3

At least Boesch is on what appears to be an upswing..doesn't look like the time to be trading for an ancient struggling outfielder.

Dude has to be hitting near .300 over the past month.

He was hitting well for a spell, and went back to sucking lately, that's been his story the whole season. Everytime we think he's out of his funk, he makes liars out of us.

Last 12 games he has hit .238, last 6 games he's hit .130, and that's dragged his average over the last 28 days down to .282

Granted overall he's had a decent July, .299/.325/.545/.870 but that was inflated because of a furious stretch, and then negated by the horrible one he's currently on.

Thats fair, but I still don't see Soriano being a solution. Especially if you're oging to include Berry in the deal.
