Tigers interested in Coco Crisp

hed be ok i guess. definitely better than young (who wouldnt be?) im more ok with less power from a corner OF spot than most of you are since we get a good amount from catcher and shortstop instead.

Get it done. Make Crisp the starting LF and leadoff guy and try to trade Young as part of a package for a 2B/3B. He'd add some much needed speed ahead of Cabrera and VMart.

if i remember correctly, he's got decent gap power. that plus his speed could work really well in comerica for doubles and triples. small sample size, but his OPS over 135ab's in comerica is .845.

Why not just leave Raburn in left full time. He's a much better player than Crisp. Crisp is not the answer at lead off any more than Austin Jackson is the answer at lead off.

Crisp is a better than Dirks, though. Maybe he is taking his spot.

raburn is not better than crisp. his WAR from 2008-11 is 4.5. crisp's is 8.6, nearly double raburn's. crisp is very good defensively, whereas raburn is a liability no matter where he is. the only (and i mean ONLY) thing raburn has done better in his career than crisp is hit for more power. he's worse defensively, he has a worse ba/obp, and is worse on the basepaths. plus raburn still hasnt learned how to hit before july. how is he the better player?

A lot of that WAR is negative from second base. Which Raburn should never play.

Their OBP and BA are within points of each other, so it's a little misleading to declare one better. It's an insignificant margin.

Crisp is a good fielder and can steal bases. That's not enough to make up the difference in slugging and overall production, in my opinion.

Bottom line is that I can't get excited about Coco Crisp when another team just signed Dejesus, who is better in every way.

Crisp is Jackson without the potential to improve. And doesn't hit enough for left.

per jason beck: "@Spockmaster They've had discussions on Crisp. One potential problem is Crisp wants to play CF wherever he signs, not a corner spot."

him not wanting to play a corner position certainly presents a problem seeing that we have ajax and arent likely to move him to a corner spot or off the team.

Crisp stole about 50 bases last season. Could you imagine that speed on base in front of Miggy and VMart?

Crisp always gets hurt, not sure if he would be worth picking up

i dunno about the stolen base thing, the most he'd stolen in a season before going to oakland was 28. do you really think leyland would let him run loose like they have in oakland? jim appears to be allergic to stolen bases.

Why wouldn't he? Leyland clearly likes the hit and run and NL small ball style of play. He's just been lacking the players to accomplish that here.

If only he could steal first base.

If there'd be a guarantee he'd hit like he did his last two years in Cleveland because since then hes been more closer to crap than good. And SB are overrated.

True, but he's got a higher career BA/OPS/SLG than Jackson, strikes out half as much as Jackson and steals a lot more bases. He'd be a definite upgrade as a leadoff hitter. DY is a little bit better hitter, but Crisp is better in the field and on the bases. Jackson could be moved to #9 and you'd have a could speedy guys in a row. Young could be traded for a 2B/3B.

He is similar to Ajax in most hitting stats outside of homers so no. Defense is great but it does nothing if the ball isn't hit to him and offense scores runs. Great he can steal bases, but you have to get on base to do that

Maybe it was you Spock, but I saw it posted either here or a news blip, and the frustrating part of this coco crisp interest from the Tigers is he only wants to play centerfield. whereas,
DeJesus has logged nearly 200 games (1700 innings) at each of left, center, and right.
got to let it go.

yeah it was me, jason beck tweeted that tidbit to me after i linked him the mlbtr article about it.
