Tigers working on signing Stephen Drew to play SS then would trade Peralta to Arizona or Boston.
Jim Bowden now says Tigers are trying to sign SS Stephen Drew, which would set in motion a trade of Peralta.

i dunno how to feel about this...he just hasnt been the same since his injury. it all depends on what we get in return for a trade of peralta.

maybe peralta + porcello for upton? id be ok getting upton if it means not parting with any of our top prospects.

His defense would be better but I'd trust Peralta at the plate much more. And he'd prbaby want too much money.

Trust JP at the plate more than Drew? Really? Drew won't bounce into a bajillion double plays, I'll guarantee you that. Won't have the power but we'll have enough of that elsewhere in the line-up.

I could see Drew at a .197 clip or .210. And his defense is not that good to make up for it.

i dont think he'd hit that low. even this last year, the first back after his injury, he still hit .223, and that was likely due to the low .275 babip.

Bill James' projection for him next year is .252/.325/.411/.736, which is better than we got from Peralta this last year. the real worry is that his defense will remain as bad as it was this year due to the injury.

overall, i guess id pass on drew. way too many question marks on both offense and defense due to his injury. i would really not mind moving peralta, but drew is not a suitable replacement.

Is Drew really that big of a defensive upgrade over Peralta? Is that enough to offset the offensive differences?

I dont think he is, not after his ankle injury. Theres always the chance that he improves the more he plays (he did only come back this June, after all) but I dont know if i wanna take that chance right now.

Fine get rid of Peralta, he declined bad last year, had a nice defensive postseason. But, he is only gonna get worse.

Very discouraging to consider that the Tigers have no one in the pipeline ready to play at so many positions and that they have to recycle players who they are scouting while trying to beat them on the field.

I wonder what the D'backs would want for Kubel. Would Peralta and Dirks be enough?

Why would we want Kubel? His defense in the OFer is right there with Boesch and D. Young.

OF UZR/150 last 3 years

Boesch -10.7

Kubel -10.5

D. Young -9.5

The MLB on XM guys seemed to think Drew would be a big upgrade over Peralta. They were saying they'd take 120gms of Drew and 40gms of Santiago over 160gms of Peralta. I found that a little surprising.

maybe a healthy Drew, not like DL drew his brother.
and Santiago seemed to have aged 5 years this season. maybe from not playing winter ball before ST.
I'm not really sold on this,
