Tigers looking to sign Stephen Drew

Just going off what I've read, but McCann is supposedly very good defensively and with the game calling. I'll take that from a backup over a "good" offensive catcher who might hit around .250 anyways.

That's what people said about SS too.

Drop Peralta for someone who's a lighter hitter, but good defense.

Which sounds good on paper until you realize we still have problems scoring runs is we have a back end of the lineup that can't hit worth a shit.

I don't give a fuck about anyone's defense, if they can't hit major league pitching, they should not be in the major leagues. Otherwise every person who ever bitched about Brandon Inge or Adam Everett are huge hypocrites.

We're essentially swapping out DY and Boesch for VMart and Hunter going into this season, plus we'll get a full year of Infante instead of the Raburn/Kelly/Inge/Santiago/Worth show. We should be much better offensively, IMHO.

I can live with a BACK UP catcher who hits .200.

I can't, and neither can the Tigers.

There are some durability concerns with Avila, so our backup catcher is somebody you may have to rely on to play significant and/or extended time.

Good defensive backup catchers who can't hit are okay if you can sub-stain his bad offensive numbers. Last year we couldn't have done it, maybe this year but he has to play in limited games (starts), 20-25. Though I'm not sure Avila can handle 140.

I don't like the idea of signing Stephen Drew...he has better range but he really wasn't even a better defender than peralta last season...maybe once he's fully healed that changes but I don't see his bat being what it was.

unless they can unload JP as part of a trade package I dont' like it.

teams that are "in" on Stephen Drew as of this hour: Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Athletics and Tigers.
