Tigers @ Oakland 5/10

Well at least Valverde finally had a relatively easy 9th although Raburn did have to make a diving catch for out #2. Not happy with Jim for outmaneuvering himself into having to use the setup and closer tonight after being up 10-2 in the 8th. Yeah coke this coke that but it's not his roll, sometimes you take guys out of their element and you set em up for a subpar performance.

Now Benoit and Valverde will both end up over used again shortly and we'll be in for another who tries to close this one next thing ya know. I like Jim, it's hard not to like him, but dang it! he makes it harder than it needs to be!

Hey now first win with Mud dummy starting the game thread! wooo whooo

This is what big bats and key hit after key hit and lots of runs do--they make 8th-inning grand slams merely annoying things, and lets us grumble about what pitchers are used and when.

They aren't 8th-inning grand slams that make us chuck our laptops through the TV.

I watched the Oakland broadcast tonight and they've fallen for it, even in the early innings they loved themselves some Inge. And were making all sorts of excuses for his bad play last season. And they didn't understand why the Tigers didn't trade him..

well, this one was for different reasons.

seriously, wtf was with that awful, awful pitch?

Never being satisfied with everything isn't necessarily a bad trait.

leyland has made some of his dumbest decisions of the year the last 2 innings. at least we still won. i wonder what got into him.

If you say so, but I'm not upset he used Valverde.

No problem with any of the pitchers he used, Coke was just not sharp.

I was all for the suicide squeeze too, much rather 5 run lead than 4.

But oh well, I'm going to bed.

In regards to Inge, if you look close his stance as changed a little bit, the bat isn't as pronounced over his shoulder and his knee's look slightly more bent. He never listened to the advice when he was in Detroit?

Oakland only picked him up because we're paying his salary, they never would have traded for him, nor would any other team. I'm sure he was offered around all spring long plus the first month and a half.

Yes, you read that right, we paid Inge to hit that GS against us.

Sickening.

He sucks in any stance. Just throw it in the dirt, insta-out.

Balester didn't get the message apparently. He should now be forced to watch a week's worth of check swing K's just to make sure he knows in case there is a next time.

the squeeze was unnecessary (why not just try to swing away, the top of the lineup was coming up?) as was using valverde with a 4 run lead when he just had a 31-pitch outing 2 days ago. it just made no sense.

But in all honestly Inge could hit .600 the rest of the season and I wouldn't care. But I'd still bet he hits less than .200 at season's end..

I don't like it either. Closers just have a harder time in non-save situations and Leyland sees it first hand. If this was NY, and 'Mo was healthy, they'd used someone else and if it became a save situation, then 'Mo would come in.

I didn't watch the game. The first thing I did this AM was look at the score. Then I looked at the box and saw Inge with one hit and 4 RBI. All I could do is laugh. At least they won!

So Inge hits a GS off a scrub who will go the way of Tom Makowski, Bill Slayback and Jerry Udjur. Who? My point exactly.

Tigers win, Tigers win, thhhheeeeeheeeehhhhe Tigers win.
