Tigers @ Royals, Game 94, July 18, 2023

Let?s not forget Spencer makes a mistake in the field and that run was the difference on that high chopper over the mound.
I really don?t want to bash him but he has to know not to go for that ball.
Because no way can the pitcher get first after his first move was back to the ball.

Short didn?t tack on a duck from third with less than 2 outs runner on third early in the game also cost the tigers..
I loved KC?s bunt for a run and batter was safe. Wish we did that more .

It?s the first time that there has been three games decided by that score in the MLB on the same day since any pitcher who wasn?t named either Shohei Ohtani or Babe Ruth hit two home runs in a game in which they were the winning pitcher.

Royals 11 - Tigers 10: Hot mess in KC.
Spencer Torkelson and Javier B?ez had good nights at the plate, so of course the pitching went to hell.

Tork homers twice, Detroit Tigers get 4 runs in 9th, still fall 11-10 to K.C. Royals.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

The trade deadline is fast approaching with only 12 days left.

The Detroit Tigers have 4 pitchers they could potentially lose after this year.

Eduardo Rodriguez (2.70 ERA) has a player opt out that he is widely expected to use after this season. Michael Lorenzen?s (3.75 ERA) contract expires after 2023. And Jose Cisnero (3.34 ERA) and Chasen Shreve (4.54) will become free agents in 2.5 months.

ERod and Cisnero both have .500 W/L records. The other two are under .500.

Should the Tigers trade them all? They would lose 2 starters and 2 relievers. But in return, they may get MLB-ready players and/or a chance to add needed depth to their minor league pipeline.

If they do trade them, do they have replacements who can come up? Will other pitchers who are expected to come off the IL at some point be able to take their spots?

If they don?t trade them, the team will lose 4 players after this season and receive nothing in return. Can the Tigers afford to allow their system to become even more depleted?

Or should the Front Office hang onto them? The Tigers are 9 games under .500 and 5 games out of 1st place in the AL Central. Should they try to finish the year as best they can?

This is today?s question to kick start some good discussion threads here ? and to take with you wherever you go during the rest of the week.

Should the Tigers trade all 4 of their pitchers with expiring contracts by this year's trade deadline?

1. Yes

2. No

It is tough to blame Tork when he went 3-5, 2 HR, and drove in 1/2 of their runs.

I didn't see the play in question, but are you sure that they could have gotten the out if Tork didn't make a play on the ball? I assume that it was a slow, high chopper going between first and second base?

I love that a pitcher coming off not pitching for an entire year has 11 dominant innings to start his comeback and has ONE bad inning and gets repeatedly shit on. Good grief

I saw the two bad plays on MLBTV by Hasse. Seen enough. Game was lost by defense. It happens to bad Tigers don't have good outfielder to play . Setting both Green and Baddoo and Mckinstry, at the same time. IMO is on AJH, good grief Charlie Brown.

First two games back from the DL July 8/9
Riley Greene looked so locked in..
4/7 2BB and a HR
since then a flat out struggle 2/16
needs to find that swing he had vs TOR.

The Tigers traded JD Martinez six years ago today July 18.
He?s made 5 All-Star teams & hit 172 home runs since.
Dawel Lugo & Jose King are currently
the guys who dish up the free curly fries at participating Arby?s locations when the Tigers score 3 or more runs.

Tigers? broadcast team ranks dead last in local MLB broadcaster rankings.
The local broadcast team has consistently ranked bottom-five in Awful Announcing?s surveys since the surprise 2018 firing of Mario Impemba and Rod Allen.

On June 28th Spencer Torkelson got the day off after having a 4-41 stretch with a .363 OPS
Since June 29th?

1st. Pull and launch.
2nd. Using 6/29 as the start date he's put 44 BIP.
25 of those were when the ball is in the heart of the plate. He's hit .400/.400/.760 with a wOBA of .488
17 of those were when the ball was in the shadow zone. He's hit .471/.471/1.176 with a wOBA of .678

It was right over the mound a tad on the second base side. It was clear to me the pitcher was going to get it. Tork was way off the bag and he was in nomad land. Even if he fields it no one is getting to first base because the pitcher is going after the ball to. Live and learn. Play better next time.

I see one post on this so it?s me. Skubal was lazy in the 5 run inning. Throwing shit pitches
Right over the plate. Agree to disagree but he needs to be better. I do think AJ could have pulled him and maybe saved a run or two. But it was early. Not sure why he was so good and terrible in two innings. Maybe he for predictable.

I more made at Briske and White. Neither pitched like Alexander, and it cost the Tigers
The game with the hitting we got.
