Tigers verses White Sox Game Thread Sept. 17

season over. its POSSIBLE they could come from 3 back with 16 games to go, but this team will never fucking do it. blow up the roster in the offseason like we need to, try to find some more two way players, and at minimum kick all the worthless players like boesch, young, raburn, kelly, santiago, worth, coke, peralta, etc to the curb.

It won't happen. You just know that we'll have to watch some of those players for yet another year.

Better than Garcia?

That isn't what he said. He said no other MLB would ever use Kelly as a defensive replacement. Which is just an assumption and likely a wrong one, Kelly is a better defender then many starting outfielders, it's the only reason he was ever in the MLB to begin with because he could never hit.

And I have no idea if he's better than Garcia, and nobody knows if Garcia makes that play either....

OK, the other guy said Phial Choke and CHoke...is that 2 different players or does the whole team fall under the 2nd one?

it's coke,

spin on his name phil is phail/fail coke/choke,

iirc when he was with the yankees before the trade, they used him vs. lefty batters rather successfully, then tried him vs. righty batters as well, and it didn't go as well, traded to Tigers and initially was ok/good vs. both, then down hill, now two years vs. righty bats, and up until past couple weeks kept putting him out there against them.

Tigers finish road trip 4-6. 3G deficit means Tigers need help down the stretch:
if Sox go 9-7 final 16G, Tigers have to go 12-4 just to tie.

per ESPN, odds of making the playoffs: 1.TEX 99%, 2.OAK 94%,3.NYY 94%, 4.CHI 86%, 5.BAL 70%, 6.LAA 23%, 7.DET 19%

Turns out Avila was not available today. He experienced headaches during BP. Questionable for tomorrow. Not spotted in clubhouse postgame.

Well, then he referred to CHoke twice. Just don't let him inherit runners. He's horrible when it comes to coming in with runners on base.

Avila isn't a big loss. He hasn't done shit this year.

Worthless would be batting .087 though.

Infante went 0-3 today and failed yesterday and today to turn the DP so i get your point and I know worth cannot hit... But lately neither has Infante and he has been terrible in the field..

Garcia is 6'5.. My guess is his arms are not failing around like Kelly's on that ball hit by Santana.. He plays right a lot more then Kelly and I hear is was decent in RF in the minors.. He is faster then Kelly and yet Kelly was in there over the younger faster and taller player..The ball hit Kelly's glove before the wall Jared it loose.. So yeah my rewind looking glass time portal says that Garcia has a 72.8 percent chance of catching that over the smaller less gifted player in Kelly..

honestly i think the worse decision from that inning was putting valverde in to pitch for a 4th time in 5 days. he threw fucking batting practice.

Bingo and if the smoker didn't have such an overriding desire to keep some of the pen arms fresh even if it means running out the 8th and 9th inning guys in non save situations instead of making sure others like AL Al and downs also stay fresh well then psssst..

Yeah that is probably right too.. JV never should have been pitching the ninth..

DD was and never seems to be proactive with his teams problems..DD and Jim always seems to wait and wait and wait. Inge and raburn come to mind.. He should have picked Hudson up before the Sox did if he could have.. He would have been a huge defensive upgrade at second base. Yeah he can't hit.. But the Sox went 9-1 right after he was signed.. He is a solid defender which we really needed at second base.. But DD and the Tigers just muddle through.. As much as i hate Youkilis our team needs a dirt ball player like him.. Another move that has payed off for the Sox... plus Meyer from Houston... All roses for that douche bag Williams..

Garcia and Kelly are the same height, 6'4" tall.

Your rewind looking glass is getting bad data.

People are really getting far fetched trying to hang losses on Leyland. Leyland used Kelly not Garcia....let's forget Valverde was shit, let's forget Infante cost us, let forget we failed to score that man on 3rd in the top 9th with 1 out and our 3 and 4 hitters up. But lets blame Jim. And next year we'll blame whoever else is managing the Tigers, because it's obviously the reason we don't win with horrible players.

meh, i still wouldnt have wanted hudson. he has a -0.4 WAR this year, his defense cant quite make up for his offense being abysmal. he would have just continued the trend. i wouldnt have wanted a player like youk either. assholes can make your team look bad and can mess up team chemistry if they dont get along with teammates (see milton bradley, chris perez, and shitzynski). myers hasnt helped them much either, the big difference with them this year are dunn and rios not blowing chunks, and their defense as a whole is a ton better than ours.

but i definitely agree that DD hasnt done nearly enough to try and fix our holes, there just wasnt much we couldve done mid-season. it should have happened in the offseason. we probably would still have avila and peralta (everyone expected a dropoff, just maybe not this much) but we should NOT have gone into the season with young and boesch at OF/DH, and 2B should have been addressed better than resigning santiago.

Yeah you guys are probably right.. I am just pissed.. I just don't understand how DD could have let the defense get so damn bad.. Does he not realize the outfield dimension of Comerica park? Did he really think that Santiago/raburn/worth were the answer at second base. Because last I check there is a lot of ground that only Jackson can really cover.. As far as Kelly being 6'4. Ok... But did you see him go after that ball.. Yikes.. It just did not look major league.. Hopefully the Tigers finally get a streak going and go 14-2 or 15-1 and the Sox can go 9-7....
