Tigers vs. a's ALDS Game Thread 1 Oct. 6

Nice to see Avila with a couple good swings as well.

Yes...that would be huge if he could be "that guy" at the bottom of the lineup to do some damage. Especially after doing nothing in the postseason last year and scuffling most of the regular season.

Looks like JP is still going to be useless though...

the As (mostly Reddick that i see) are whining about the strike zone.

boo-hoo-hoo, assholes. no room to whine when your team struck out the most of any other team and you swung missed a ton.

JV was the benefactor of some pitches outside to lefties but what isn't being said is that Parker had five such pitches called strikes as well.

It at the very least proves consistency in the zone regardless of it being incorrect to the rule.

I read on another message board yesterday where someone had some stats that said JV was given 9 favorable strikes and Parker was given 7. I forgot what they were using to pull that info from. Given their pitch counts that averages out to be 1 favorable call for each between every 13 and 14 pitches.

some writers have taken to hyperbole by saying JV was getting a foot or better but that only happened on two pitches...with the movement he gets on his pitches I'm sure that's probably the case every game he throws.

There is no denying he was getting favorable calls to the lefties but so was Parker.

edit: went back through his last four starts or so and in all but one he received a minimum of 5 beneficial strike calls to the same side of the plate.
