Verlander feels he's rounding into form at right time.
Coming off impressive September, righty aims to give Tigers 2-0 lead in ALDS.

Bottom line: Verlander must get ahead in counts. When he falls behind, hitters have a .995 OPS against him compared to a .453 OPS when he's ahead.

Bottom line: It's important for Gray to set the tone early. This season, he owns a 5.10 ERA over the first three innings. Afterward, his ERA drops to 0.53.

Yes, after all the speculation whether Jhonny Peralta might displace Andy Dirks in left field at some point in this Division Series, it’s Don Kelly getting the start in left for Game 2 tonight. I can’t say it’s a matchup thing, because none of these guys have faced A’s rookie Sonny Gray. Everything else in the lineup is the same.
Oakland, meanwhile, makes a swap in its lineup. Seth Smith, who has drawn six walks off of Justin Verlander in his career, is in. Daric Barton, who also has drawn his share of walks but had an uncharacteristic misplay on defense last night, is out.

I know the protocol, here:

Don Kelly is starting?! wtf!

This is his cue to turn into Don freaking kelly.

He has a better chance to catch a fly ball further than 15/20 feet away from him than Peralta.
Lots of foul ground in oakland, so I'm hoping for that.
Anything better than 0 for 3/4 with the bat will be a bonus.

I think I may have actually cracked a smile once or twice today, let's do it again!

Umpires: HP: CB Bucknor. 1B: Gary Darling. 2B: Jim Reynolds. 3B: Tom Hallion. LF: Mike DiMuro. RF: Mark Wegner.

How does mlb continue to send these professional f'k ups like cb bucknor as umps in these playoff games. shit recycled = shit.

Tigers are 1-9 in JV's last 10 starts. That stat seems like it would be impossible.

IMHO a major factor in last night game was getting the first man out. Tigers K'ed the first batter 7 times as well. The only time the a's got the lead off batter on he scored later on the home run!

Verlander brings his A game like Max did Tigers should be in the game all night long. And lets face it getting a lead and making it stand up is good/great pitching. And that what the Tigers are made of,STARTING PITCHING.

First strikes for jv will be key, these a's love to try and get that PC up, most of them will be taking that first one all night, take advantage of that and just lay the first one in there

Don Kelly hit a homer verses the Yankees in the playoffs maybe he can do it again !!!

These TBS annoying announcers are already building up the A's. I do not know,I'm not going to be able to take them, all game tonight.

I think the key is going to be scoring in more than 1 inning. I guarantee the fact we went dead for straight 8 innings after being no-hit in our previous game is what the A's are all thinking about and hanging the hopes of winning on. They probably all think if they can get a lead it's in the bag, because they know how easily we get shut down.

Can't leave all the offense in the 1st inning and hope pitching will hold it. We got lucky last night.
