Tigers vs. athletics Game Thread Sept. 19

Nice move Smokey... What a dumb shit.. Gives the A's hope for Thursday.. Closer have no business pitching in a 6 run game... I don't care how many days off he has had unless it is 100.

This just doesn't make sense...set up man and closer in a 6 - 0 game.

f'n brilliant bp mgmt by Leyland, and Wimpy out for a chat,

Valverde getting hit hard this year on pitches around the knees to thighs, all fastballs, rarely splitters,

Earlier today was a chat with Keith Law http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/45237

Klaw (2:12 PM)

"I truly don't see a rational case for Cabrera. It's all based on outdated and incomplete stats. Trout and Cabrera have equivalent OBPs. Cabrera has a 54-point lead in SLG, but plays in a better offensive park. Trout is a plus defender, Cabrera is a poor one. Trout has stolen 46 bases of 50; Cabrera has stolen 4 of 5. Replacement level at 3b and cf are pretty close to equal. So Miggy's slight lead in power is obliterated by Trout's huge advantages in defense and basestealing. Is that really hard to understand? Do we even need WAR or a similar construct to tell us that?"

Apparently the only stat that is 'modern' and MVP relevant is WAR. Stolen Bases are also a be-all-end-all. Honestly WAR seems broken when Trout is better than Cabrera and Fielder combined.

How Law can't see a "rational case for Cabrera" is just ridiculous. At one point during the chat he does mention his MVP Runner up is Verlander. (1:49pm)

I thought Comerica was a pitcher's haven. And his slight lead in power is a 14-HR and a FIFTY-TWO RBI advantage.

Valverde figures if he lets a few runs score he gets another save.

good to pad stats with FA looming.

Media: Why the FUCK did you FUCKING put FUCKING VALVERDE in the FUCKING GAME?

What should be an enjoyable victory turned into a 9th inning unnecessary disappointment, very disappointed in this need to use the setup and closer with a 6 run lead, Very disappointed in Valverde for never throwing anything but fastballs. Folks we need a new closer... we can't count on Jose anymore. Also really not liking all this uncontested steal bullshit throw the fucker out and end the game!

Law was probably around to vote for Maury Wills as the '62 MVP over Mays.

Tigers win 6 - 2,
Verlander wins his 15th,
Cabrera with homerun #41,
Tigers Victory Cigar later.

Post game leyland comments, was hoping to get through the 9th with a few less pitches than that for Valverde.

pssst hey Jim, don't use him with a 6 run lead works well for that goal. didn't use Al Al cuz wants to make sure he's good for tomorrow if we need him, fine.. pssst Marte, is Pukerton still on the team? 6 run lead dude.!

Let's do it again tomorrow and get it back to 1 with 13 to go, then we'll consider getting back in the boat.
