In what way is Derek Hill the better choice in centerfield over what the Tigers? had in JaCoby Jones?

1. Hill isn't - Jones was the better player.

2. Hill is a better athlete.

3, Hill has more speed.

4. They are the same player; Hill is just younger.

5. Other

looking at it objectively, Jones was the better player in the minors. He had his chance to do something at the major league level and he failed. Hill is younger and is getting his shot. I highly doubt he will figure it out and become a productive offensive player.

All I know is Jacoby got many chances here. 1200 PA. Hill deserves some more time. And .633 OPS is better than a .460 OPS (their 2021 stats). So as far as this season, Hill is Mike Trout compared to Jacoby.

I was comparing their minor league numbers. Hill's are a little worse. Hill has had more success at the major league level but the sample size is VERY small.

Overall, Jones has a .646 OPS at the major league level and Hill .592

Hill dealt with many injuries that I'm sure slowed his development at the plate. Jones defense never seemed elite to me no matter what the metrics said. Hill makes plays that not many players in all of baseball can make. Also, comparing their minor league numbers aren't really fair when Jones played college ball and Hill came straight from hs. Jones padded his numbers as a 22 year old playing low a ball. After his first 2 years he didn't really do much more than Hill at the plate and Hill was much younger at every level.

My thought process I rather go with an unknown than an established like Jones. We know what Jones gets you he won't suddenly change into a big league player. He's 29. I'll give Hill the same chance. Next year is his make or break..

Minor league numbers are about getting a promotion after that they mean nothing.

I agree with both of you. We have established that, offensively, Jones is a turd. My point is that given Hill's offensive numbers over 7 minor league seasons, he is very likely to be turd at the plate as well.
