Tigers vs. braves Spring Training March 7

Me too. He's only 20, nothing wrong will letting a pitcher become 21-22 before he pitches on the BL club.

Tigers win 5-1 and improve to 5-0 on the spring. Team hits the road tomorrow against Tampa Bay.

I also would like to see Turner pitch at AAA Toledo. get some more experience and the look of confidence that he (and Oliver) seem to lack.
Below and Smyly, maybe a chance that Wilk get it in that order, at least imo.

I firmly believe he needs at least a full season at AAA.

Below on the other hand I think is ready enough, and being a LHP is who I'd pick, assuming someone else does really make a name for themselves in ST.[/quote:5oetjx7a]

Yeah, I also think that he needs another year in the minors. I think that we have pitchers that are more well prepared at the moment, and I like the fact that Turner can continue to work on stuff in the minors.

From playing a lot of sports, tennis being what I ended up playing in college, when you are overmatched by an opponent, you resort to what gives you the best chance to win, instead of working on what will make you the best you can be in the future. I know that i developed some bad habits because of that kind of stuff. And I know that every person isn't the same, but I would still like to see another year of seasoning down in the minors for Turner.

I'd agree Turner should start in Triple A, but not for set amount of time, if he forces his way onto the staff, whether by May or not until next year, he should get a spot in the rotation.

In the last couple of days one of the posters asked who was pitching Thursday??

Fifth starter candidate Duane Below will make his second outing of the spring in relief of starter Doug Fister.

At age 26, this is basically Below's last year to prove himself. I.E., after this year he would basically stop being called a prospect (see Strieby). Until last year, at an advanced age, Below really hadn't shown much. So, I am skeptical that he would be a successful ML pitcher. However, I certainly agree with starting Turner in AAA to start the season. The, after the AS break evaluate where they are at.

You can bring up Oliver, Turner or Wilk after the break. Whoever has proved themselves. Assuming Below break camp with the big league. If he doesn't, I think he is traded or is a non-factor.

I see that Turner gave up 4 BB and 2 hits in 1 1/3 innings..ick...and Oliver gave up 3, but no hits in 3 IP with 3 Ks.

Talking about Strieby - he just never had a chance. From Miguel to Prince where was he playing. I was always curious if he got the show what'd he do.

he was also injured a lot, he had wrist problems for a long time that held him back.

I agree...Keep Turn at toledo for a year..We can find plenty of options and not have to rush him..

I should clarify, I did not mean Turner to stay at AAA all year, just that he needs a full season (worth of games) at AAA, he got some of it last year.
