What a difference a month makes. The Detroit Tigers had an 8-19 record in April. In May, their record was 14-13. They went from MLB-worst -69 run differential to +4 run differential. The difference? The bullpen and overall pitching performance.

May's results make for only the third winning month for the Tigers since 2016. It's also the first month in which the team has scored more runs than allowed since that same time period.

The past weekend series against the NY Yankees was the first time the Detroit Tigers have swept them at Comerica in 20 years.

The Detroit Tigers best signing for this year isn't a player. It's a coach.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize made his debut in 2020, but he?s still technically a rookie in 2021.

That makes his masterful May even more impressive.

Mize posted a 1.74 ERA in 31 innings, the best May performance since Rick Porcello (1.50 ERA in 30 innings) in 2009 and Justin Verlander (1.73 ERA in 36 innings) in 2006.

Mize was named Tigers Pitcher of the Month by Detroit media, beating out fellow starter Spencer Turnbull.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario, who batted .313/.394/.490 in May, won Player of the Month honors, beating out Robbie Grossman.
