Tigers vs, Brewers June 1, 2021 Game 55

Napped though the whole game. Lots of home runs it seems. As far as Boyd he starts well and then goes gown hill so unless they trade him at the end of April he stays here. He has a 4th arb next season but I doubt he gets signed for another one year deal...

Soft ball game win. But a win is a win. At least JS bat seem to have come to life lately, .251 after 3 hits today. A few more of them and he might be a hitter to deal with. The way the Tigers have pitched lately a little hitting could win some games. But yea Boyd needs to get with it.

The double by Cabrera was his 400th as a Tiger and the 583rd of his career, tying Robin Yount for 21st on the all-time list.

It?s time to revisit the last week of baseball from Monday through Sunday. What stood out for our two bloggers? What do we need to keep our eyes on going forward?

Four observations apiece and just 2 sentences to identify each of them.
As always, answers aren?t shared ahead of time so let?s see how similar ? or how different ? Kurt and Holly are in their responses.

Must have been the infield hit I thought he came up a little gimp like after he ran that out. Figures

I doubt they sign him long term and I really doubt they would just let him walk. My guess is he either signs a one year deal or goes to arb and gets another 20-25% raise. I highly doubt he is a Tiger after next season. He is too inconsistent and will probably demand too much money as a free agent.

With home runs to start the second and third innings, Eric Haase has become the third Tigers player in the Expansion Era (since 1961) to lead off back-to-back innings with a HR.

Others:
Chad Curtis (May 28, 1995)
Willie Horton (September 11, 1968)

One reason why offense is down significantly this year... The average fastball clocks in at 94MPH and is expected to rise in velocity even more with peak speed to be seen in August. Baseballs now weigh less which is why they are traveling faster from the mound to home plate.

The lighter balls allow for higher spin rates which makes pitches harder to hit. Add the sticky stuff most pitchers are allegedly using, and the spin rate goes even higher. And once they are hit, they travel less far.

The Detroit Tigers simply didn't hire A. J. Hinch because he was available. Certainly best friend Scott Bream was a major factor. But it was reported that the Tigers also wanted a manager who could evaluate talent and develop players.

In addition to managing, Hinch's resume includes being the manager of minor league operations, head of scouting and director of player development.
