Tigers vs cardinals game thread June 21st

Is this a serious question? You're asking why pitchers don't get to throw 150 pitches a game?

I understand that pitchers go through fatigue, but managers handle these guys with caution these days as if on any pitch over the 90 mark their arm will fall off. With the 5 man rotations of today, pitches should be able to go longer into games without feeling that fatigue.

Hang on everyone, the thumb is about to explain why you are all idiots and he is the all knowing.

I wasn't going to explain anything smart guy.

I figured if he was serious, it was a lost cause.

But why don't you explain, if you're going to run your mouth, back it up with something.

I'm not say 90 is the limit, but I don't know anyone who would be allowed to go 150, hell Verlander is one of the top innings guys and he usually stays right around 115-120.

Edit: Also, it's not just fatigue, most guys start losing velocity and movement as they go high into pitch counts, the last thing you want is a good pitcher to start tossing cookies late in the game.

But why can't they go to 150? Bob Gibson had more complete games pitched than wins during his career and went into extra innings on many occasions and his arm was fine.

On occasion they probably could go 150, but you have to plan for a season, not just a game.

Plus these days closers and set up men are pretty good, it's an advantage to bring in fresh arms before a batter has seen a pitcher 3-4 times in the same game.

Ok, the pitch count is useless in my opinion because if the shoulder/elbow is going to go it will go. There is no magic number. The best factor to determine if a pitcher should be pulled is if he is getting tired. Is the curve moving anymore? Or is the breaking ball breaking? That is more of a reliable source than "he hit 100 pitches better pull him" mentality.

Damn it RR was tracking the ball good and just missed a homer... Poor guy has no luck this year..

And yet I never said anything about a "100 pitch count and pull him" limit.

Buddy mentioned 150 pitches, that was what I replied about.

And whether or not you think pitch count are useless, MLB trainers and managers do, and young arms get protected, see Strasburg.

Prince may have had another homer if the wind did not knock his first fly ball down ...

Pitch count is too damn few for most these days. When JV went 132, he said he had another 50 pitches in him. Granted 150+ every game is not happening but I don't see why someone like Turner or any pitcher can't go 115, 120 per start.
