Tigers vs. Guardians August 8, 2021 Game 114 - 1:00 start

I think he'd make a hell of a utility guy. If they sign a stud ss this off-season I'd be fine with him staying as a backup infielder. I just don't like him as the primary ss.

I agree a Ray Oyler SS. All glove. At least short hits a few dingers.

We haven't had a well rounded ss since tram. Guillen and Peralta were mostly bat and Iglesias was a big glove but light bat. I'd take any of those 3 and be happy right now. Praying that we sign Correa. Him and Schoop up the middle would be fun

Derek Hill's first MLB homer not enough in finale.

Cleveland 7 - Detroit 5: A late home run does the Tigers in.
Both teams also turned in a sloppy defensive effort. So, let?s just file this one away and forget about it.

I heard that rumor about Correa. I sure hope there is some veracity to it. We need a SS bad.

Trammel and Lou spoiled me at a young age. Correa and Schoop would be pretty darn solid.

Zach short
150 .260 .318 .577
5 homers 17 RBI?s.
Ss range 4.91. 1 error 24 dps 994fp
Todays error is not in this.

NG
.220/ .296/.341/.637
6 homers 18 RBI?s
12 Sb 4 cs.
Ss range 4.15 .958 fp, 7 errors 24 dp

It?s a wash, Short is better at ss. Goodrum is faster and can play all over the Diamond .
Tad better hitter.

Sweet Lou needs that HOF call. I agree shame that crew only had 1 title. One is better then zero but they should have finished in 1987.
Spoiled is a understatement.

Spoiled is a understatement.

The Vikings hit too many balls into the outfield bleachers and into the outfield gaps in the Metrodome, then at Tiger Stadium, instead of hitting them all at Trammel and Whitaker.

If the Tigers go with a free agent at SS, I hope they don't go with a really long contract. 4-5 year contract is what I would hope for.

The 50-year-plus litany of good-fielding middle infielders, especially at shortstop, is established in Detroit, and it?s baffling that its been a weak point in the defense for the last three seasons.

I think Hinch has a specific profile of the type of players he prefers EVERYWHERE on his roster..it will be interesting to see who is acquired this winter..the profile of both Castro's doesn't fit either a Hinch type player or any player on a playoff type roster.

of the 349 players with 140 AB or more Willi Castro ranks 338 in chase rate..Salvy Perez and his 27 HR 805 OPS and 2.5% BB rate is last..Jose Iglesias and his 273/301/392 slash with 8 HR is next to last..Castro has been much worse than both.

DET is a -24 DRS at SS/2B in 2021.

Akil Badoo since July 1
250/280/433
5BB
28 SO
30/120
4% BB rate
if ya don't walk..you cannot hit leadoff..

If signing a SS in the single deepest year of quality SS? is a bad idea .. you?re not serious about winning .. not like this FO has a trade history that?s resume worthy .. I mean look at the SS depth chart if the last 6 years.

The difference between HOU and DET in SS bREF WAR as of today is (DET
-3.2..LAST) HOU +2.9..2nd) 6.1 WAR difference..if that doesn't explain why DET needs to spend money...then our next lunch will likely involve a lot of loud arguing..

Tigers shortstops since 2017
DRS- -59 (30th out of 30)
fWAR- 6.9 (27th out of 30)
wRC+- 80 (28th out of 30)

The Detroit Tigers' strategy of trying Spencer Torkelson at third base is not going well. Reports have him still appearing tentative and bobbling routine balls hit to him.

This means that Jeimer Candelario's job is secure but complicates the situation at first base - maybe as soon as next year. Jonathan Schoop was expected to play app. 40-50% of his time there. Then there's Miggy.....

If Torkelson is ready to play in 2022, then he'll go to first base and Schoop will move back and play second base more often. And there's still the black hole surrounding shortstop.

Totally Tigers
