Well?this game will determine whether June will have been a monumental success or a colossal failure.

Okay?that was kind of a joke.

But it will determine if the team is just over .500 for June, or just under.

I might just listen to Jim and Danny boy off and on my interwebs radio.

Baby steps

First Doubleheader Sweep in Cleveland by The Tigers in 44 years.
Detroit?s 7-1 victory in the wee hours of Thursday morning, coupled with a 9-4 win in the first game of the seven-inning doubleheader on Wednesday night, marked the Tigers? first twin-bill sweep of the Indians since Aug. 7, 1986, and their first sweep in Cleveland since Sept. 14, 1977.

Watch this one. A patented Cabrera oppo shot.

While the Tigers were busy sweeping a doubleheader from Cleveland for the first time in living memory, Miguel Cabrera put another exclamation point on an outstanding career, drilling a fastball over the wall in right center field in game two for his 494th home run.

In the process, Cabrera left Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff behind, seizing the 28th all-time position for his own, but the next move will take some time. To catch Orioles great Eddie Murray, Cabrera will need another 10 home runs. Gary Sheffield lurks beyond at 509. All of that will probably have to wait for 2022.

Cabrera?s hot streak may not last, but he?s actually had a very productive June at the plate. After the bicep issue early in the season, and a lack of hard contact in the air, things weren?t looking great, but he?s swinging the bat much better. The odds of him reaching 500 with half the season remaining seems pretty good right about now.
Miguel Cabrera is hitting .333/.360/.488 this June. He?s not walking and his BABIP is like .450

It was also a big month for Cabrera. With a pair of two-hit games in the twin bill, he closed out June batting .329 (28-for-85) for the month with five doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs, his first full month batting over .300 since June 2019. In the process, he has taken what had been a sub-.200 batting average as recently as June 13 and pushed it to .240.

The Tigers have the day off on Thursday as they head home for a Holiday weekend series against the division leading White Sox. They find themselves in third place, 12 games behind Chicago at the mid point of the season. The three rookies- Skubal, Mize, and Manning figure to get the starts against the Sox.

After that, the Tigers? next 25 games, through August 1st, are all against the Twins, Rangers, Royals, and Orioles. Detroit has a better record than all of them. Just saying....

The Tigers won two games at Progressive Field in 2019 and ?20 combined. By matching that total, Detroit completed its second consecutive winning month, something it hadn?t done since the summer of 2016. The club closed out June winning seven of its last 10 games against the Indians, Astros, Cardinals and Angels.

for me, this was a big DH sweep for the Tigers. It gave them a winning month and pretty much everyone contributed.

Get Boyd and Turnbull back after the break and maybe go to a 6 man rotation?

Bring up the kids At double AA Erie ! They are smoking hot.

It isn't time. Torkelson, Green, and Dingler need to spend the rest of the year (at minimum) together in AA. Torkelson and Dingler have only played 44 minor league games since being drafted. Green has only played in 103 games.

Tork is 21
Dingler 22
Green 20

I really think all three of these guys could be really good MLB players. I'd love to see them come up when the minor league season is over to get their feet wet and maybe next year at this time we see Tork and Green up here for good.

Since May 7
AL Standings
HOU 31-18
BOS 30-18
CWS 30-19
