Well, that would have remained the winning run for the next hitter rather than out #3. I bet that Hasse is ?upset with that.? Even had he sprinted to second and touched it and waited for the outcome, he?d have returned to first safely.

There is no reason to round second in that situation.

exactly. There were three scenarios if he stops on second
1) it's a HR and game over
2) the LF can't make the play and he scores easily
3) the guy catches it and he gets back to first and they are still alive in the bottom of the 9th

It's kind of ironic that this happened yesterday. This ESPN article was on their site yesterday.

I don't blame the coaches...these guys should know the fundamentals of baserunning by the time they are in high school.
