Tigers vs. Marlins 4-6-16 Game 2

Gave Fernandez his first loss ever at home. I think they said 29 games?

dude was straight dealing but it's a double edged sword when you k that many because typically have to throw more pitches.

Tigers fully utilized all their hits early on tonight that is for sure.

so he starts mixing pitches and strikes out the best hitter on the team.

so.....what have we derived from this?

I think we've derived that the tigers are going to try and give us all heart attacks all year long

nice win against a tough righty. One thing looks the same as last year...the BP still doesn't impress me.

I'm glad I love the Tigers because if I didn't I don't know if I could handle this for another 162 games! Happy for another win.

New Nick name for K-Rod, Lob-Rod

That last pitch he threw was pretty damn good. Looked like it darted away like two feet at the end. You don't need upper 90's heat to be effective. I'm willing to give him more time.

He definitely deserves a ton of rope on his resume alone, but he's looked terrible to me the last two nights.

Yeah, varying between 80-83mph ain't gonna cut it. Really not liking what I've seen from him so far.

his fastball still hits 89 or so (I feel like I'm dwelling here but more surpised in myself I didn't know this) fell in love with his changeup last year and had good results in the NL with it.

I think he has to trust in his other pitches more often to be effective with the change.

I do think that strikeout pitch to Stanton was fantastic. But again why not go after the batter ahead of him? Maybe he couldnt hit his spots but still better that guy then Stanton beating you .

I think he will do well. He could have used a little more work during spring training. Once he finds the strike zone comfortably, he will freeze guys with that change up.

I was going to say there could be a learning curve between NL and AL but he pitching against a NL club.

I wasn't sure about yesterday but Tuesday it seems others saying he wasn't mixing his pitches in. No fastball. Even at 89mph you need to throw it.

2 days is way too early to judge.

I PH Sanchez there (T-6 2-out). He has one more inning tops and he's not Bumgarner or Grienke. No hindsight here.

I agree with this.

To me watching game 1, it looked like the marlin batters were sitting back waiting on his changeup.
All we can do is hope he pitches like last 2 years.
