Leyland said yesterday he was hopeful for Betemit to start today. But that was likely before he knew O's were starting lefty Matusz.
Leyland hopes to start Betemit next 3 days, says Guillen "not ready".
Leyland on Alburquerque: "So far, so good".

Brad Penny will make his final start of the regular season -- and possibly his last start with the Detroit Tigers -- when the Tigers host the Orioles today in the final game of a four-game series.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland has said the Tigers will carry just four starting pitchers in the American League Division Series, and Penny seems to be the most likely to be the odd man out in the postseason rotation.

Penny could be back with an NL team next season, maybe... Hope that he pitches with a sense of urgency, and to make himself a little more attractive in the offseason FA market, but the O's obviously have the bats to pound him into smithereens...and quickly to boot..

His fiance, Karina Smirnoff, obviously loves the limelight, dunno about how she would feel if her new hubby is unemployed next year.

Goodluck Tigers...... Be back later........Go Lions!!!!!!! Get the damn job done Jimmy smokes and get your team ready...

Lot of scoreboard watching will be going on until the home field is settled and which team gets the wild card.

Who is watching the Lions and Tigers both?

Tigers could use some help from their friends Jarred Weaver and his Angels this week.

Penny gets the rookie on a fly to Young,

andino full count, walks,

davis grounds to Cabrera steps on first and throws to Peralta with the tag out,

Penny with 13 pitches.

Tigers 1st inning,

Jackson takes two strikes on the corner, takes outside, curve stays high, lines a single to left,

Magglio waits throw to first, strike call knee high, again, fastball away, fastball low, throw to first, swings and misses changeup,

Young takes low at his feet, strike call on the corner, ground ball to third throws it away Jackson keeps running to home and the throw is there he's out, f'n lamont sends him with Miguel up, E5,

Cabrera hits a homerun, another laser to left 2 runs,

Tigers lead 2 - 0,

Martinez pops to first,

matusz with 15 pitches,

Tigers lead 2 - 0.

Not a whole lot of posting here for this game - nobody even "woo, hood!" When Cabrera hit the home run.

So far, so good, hope that Penny proves my performance prediction on him to be all wrong for this afternoon...heh!!

Vikings lead the Lions early on two FGs...6-0...gulp!!

Penny 2nd inning,

vlad grounds to Inge,

fox hits a curve to left single,

reimold hits into a double play grounder to Peralta to Raburn to Cabrera,

Penny with 22 pitches,

Tigers lead 2 - 0.

It's expected with the Sunday games, Lions playing.

Cabrera is batting .413 (31x75) with 10 doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI this month.

2 GIDPs in consecutive innings, helps keep the O's from advancing their baserunners.

2-0 Tigers, bottom of the 2nd coming up...

Tigers 2nd inning,

Avila takes a curve strike, curve low, fastball fouled back, changeup inside, curve in is popped to short,

Peralta first pitch grounder to third,

Raburn takes a fastball strike, curve grounded to short,

swinging at shit, impatient at bats with a pitcher with the worst ERA minimum of 10 starts in a season ever,

matusz with 23 pitches,

Tigers lead 2 - 0.

Vikings sack Stafford again, not a good beginning for the Lions thus far in their game.

Penny 3rd inning,

hudson 0 and 2, fouled trying to slap to left, grounder to Raburn,

florimon strike call, fouled at home, swings and foul tips a curve Avila holds on to the ball,

tatum grounds to Inge,

Penny with 34 pitches,

Tigers lead 2 - 0.

Vikings are running the ball and getting into Lions territory, with relative ease, while Penny is blanking the O's, who just went down 1-2-3 in the top of the 3rd, kinda the direct opposite of what I was expecting by certain players from both teams so far this afternoon..

Maggs singles, RISP time for the Tigers, Inge on 3rd w one out...
