Tigers vs. orioles Game Information.
Valverde, Balester, Benoit, Stohr also scheduled to pitch.

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Justin Verlander will make his third start of the spring today when the Detroit Tigers host the Baltimore Orioles at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Brennan Boesch is back in the lineup one day after being scratched due to what the Tigers called "general soreness." He felt a "twinge" in his back Wednesday after hitting a long home run during batting practice, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said.
Verlander (0-0, 0.00 ERA) has allowed four hits and is yet to walk a batter in six shutout innings this spring. He has struck out four.

Tigers Gameday.

Austin Jackson sizzler to 3B knocks down Tigers Cabrera during bp - shaking left hand, brief confab with trainer, seems to be OK.
Cabrera talking again with trainer - - still flexing fingers on left hand - but goes back to taking grounders. Tom Gage

Miguel Cabrera taking ground balls right now without any obvious problem. Still, Austin Jackson's shot off his left wrist provided a scare.
Jason Beck

panic/anxiety attack...

Today's game will not be broadcast on TV, of course, but also no radio by either AL team as well, or at least from what I've read earlier while lurking on the Motown Sports Tigers board.

Don't say stuff like that, it scares grown men!

Artist's rendering of CoPa's brand-new scoreboard, with all of the garish advertising surrounding it, that are no longer static, and can be changed, as well as the Tigers' script logo above the new and gargantuan LED screen, created by Daktronics, a company responsible for the scoreboard improvements in 22 MLB ballparks:

Well, at least the Tigers ballclub didn't also go all out for anything resembling that Miami Marlins' RCF hallucination gadget, that I mentioned in a thread earlier this year... ::)

How can you pay attention to a player on the scoreboard with all that advertising on it ? Holy crap..

Yeah, just like the names of postseason college bowl games, many have changed to the point that I have absolutely no idea of what they "used" to be called...they are all becoming unrecognizably corporate-branded...also just like the names of many of the newer MLB ballparks.

That's it in a nutshell. If Tiger Stadium was still around it'd be call Walmart stadium. So stupid, the Pier One pepperoni bowl -- sexy.

All that gaudiness distracts from the two prowling Tigers at the top with the flashing eyes.

Too bad.

All that advertising makes me wish the Tigers on the board were bigger.

Also "The Pier One Pepperoni Bowl"? Clearly the next great college bowl. That shit cracked me up.

Like I have while browsing online, after awhile I unconsciously tune-out the Google-generated keyword and 3rd party ads that are strategically placed on webpages, sorta like acquiring tunnel-vision. I also have installed as many free adware removing scripts and add-ons as I can find, and update them often. I think that I could do the same "tuning-out" @ CoPa, that is, if I could attend enough games each season (which I can't)

:(

But if corporate advertisers EVER are permitted to place their logos all over on NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB players' unis/hats/helmets, like they do on NASCAR's drivers....well..I think that will be the very last straw...ugh.

Thumb,
There were a couple of stories this past week, and earlier in the off season with the two Huge Tigers getting shipped to Connecticut to be fixed up and repaired after so many years in the year round elements. They were on the way back to be put in place on that new scoreboard.
iirc they will have green? laser eyes that light up when a Tiger hits a homerun.

Motown1958 after looking at the pic that Turok posted, I agree at least in part with the advetisements below the pic of Cabrera, the xfinity and stuff. might have been better on each side.

Bassman, regarding the linedrive off Jackson's bat...that is Not what we want to see with any Tiger, especially Cabrera.
update...Cabrera had his left wrist wrapped about an hour ago, but he's still in Tigers lineup and said he's fine.

Verlander allows a leadoff home run and then responds by striking out the next three. Tigers trail the Orioles 1-0 in the first.
Verlander settles down after the Leadoff HR. 2 filthy strikeouts end the inning. Headed to the bottom of the first down a run.

View from apartment taken this afternoon, they starting putting up the ads today. The new video screen is crystal clear and huuuuuuuuggge!

Thanks for the recently snapped image, Chris.

Thought that the scoreboard construction would have been (nearly) completed by now, with less than a month before the season begins, and this "winter" has been extremely mild and almost snow-free...I wonder if they are behind schedule?

Justin Verlander might hit his pitch count early on throws to first base today. This seems to be his day to work on pickoff moves.

Verlander has faced 11 Orioles batters through 3 innings today. He has 7 K's. Tigers still down 1-0.

Oriholes are testing the Tigers' newly renovated IF with SB attempts, Prince has made an error on a JV pickoff attempt, but got the runner later on his try to steal third.
